I have heard the argument over and over again that one man and one woman is the traditional family. I have also heard the argument over and over that homosexuality will destroy the human race. For most of human history, polygamy was the norm. Until recently history, monogamy was uncommon. As a historian, I find it extremely laughable that monogamy is called the "traditional family" by most Americans. As for the doomsday theories, during the Dynastic rule in China, homosexuality was the norm. Despite all the homosexual acts going on in China it did not crack open the bowels of hell and destroy the human race. It certainly did not destroy China, as China is obviously still there. Political Ideals in China have changed, but the fact that the Chinese are here today is proof that homosexuality did not destroy their ancestors.

To the person who said eating babies was the norm. You have been misinformed. The baby story was a hoax internet story. Now I suppose you are going to do some research to pin something else on them, ignoring the fact that I could pin many bad things on Christians, like starting the Crusades, and the Salem Witch Trials.

I did not say that monogamy did not exist until recent history. I said it was uncommon.

Very true. Even in Egypt there were many wives for husbands. There were also was not the traditional marriages that there are today. It was more like "Hey, can I have your daughter?" and the dad saying "what you got for me if I give her to you?" and then he was given gifts for the daughter. Also there have been many instances of homosexuality in history. We as humans have not vanished yet.

For my ancestry, one male "Daddy" and female "Mommy" and their children made up what was the "traditional family".
Further back, my ancestry would be Celtic...so I guess, back in the mists of time, my ancestors would have been a part of a matriarchal culture. I can live with that. ;-D
Did you know that millions of Chinese are converting to Christianity even as you are typing this? Doesn't that kind of change your whole premise?
Actually, I find your remark that "homosexuality was the norm" to be rather amusing. The "norm" for whom? Since homosexuals cannot reproduce, obviously, someone somewhere was having sex in the "normal" way...that is, male and female. Someone, somewhere, was making lots of babies...
I'm not exactly sure just what you are trying to prove, but I think you missed the point.
Christians are followers of Jesus...not some dead Chinese fancy-boy f@g prince.
You follow whomever you like...

Also eating little kids in restaurants served on platters was the norm in China during their great famine.

Actually it was the norm...read up on it. Albert Fish the serial killer that the character Hannibal Lecter is based on got the idea from his friend that ate kids in China. Read it up and you will find it. His friend traveled to China where they served kids on platters, ate kids, came back to America and told Albert Fish who then decided to try it....killed a couple of kids, wrote some natsy letters to the kids families about how he ate and cooked them and then got thrown in Jail. READ UP ON IT BEFORE YOU START TO BASH ABOUT IT!

Hey and I do not care about what you say about Christians. I do not know you personally, so whatever. I am just telling the truth and you know it. I have never read an internet hoax about it. I did a research paper on serial killers for my crimionology class and this is how I found the information. It is true. Check up on it!

And hey ....The Salem Witch trials happened and it was f**ked up......what can I say? I didn't do it my ancestors did not come here as puritans. The crusades happened and it was also f**cked up, what can I say? I didn't start it. People died, people are dying now, people are dying all the time, this is what we do....we die. No matter what the reason or who did it we all just die and no one can stop it so why sit around and b**ch about who caused it.

Just because I believe in Jesus I have to feel like I should feel bad about what other people who CLAIMED to be Christians did because they were obsessed with an out of wack view of what Christianity is? Yea right...save it for someone else and go and learn a little bit about China.

1. "For most of human history, polygamy was the norm." - That's because "most people" were not Christians and because ALL PEOPLE are sinful.

2. "Despite all the homosexual acts going on in China it did not crack open the bowels of hell and destroy the human race." - This only applies if one is stupid enough to believe that homosexuality could destroy the human race. It won't as long as some heterosexuals remain.

I am surprised that a historian would not have studied the Torah, and discovered that the Judaic law insisted upon monogamy. That goes back at least 3,000 years - you call that recent?

You make some good points. But what aggravates me more than all of this is that "Good Christians" insist that gays should not marry because marriage should be between "one man and one woman" but -- low and behold -- just as many Christian marriages end in divorce (often because of infidelity) as any other marriage AND they often remarry (over and over on some occasions) and THAT's okay.

Hypocrites.

In the Christian sect, monogamy in marriage is commanded. We are also commanded not to judge the rest. It is scripturally indicated more than once in the Bible.

Monogamy is being practice by Christians while polygamy is being practice by Muslims and the whole Islam relgion, so with the Mormons.

You are welcome to believe that however, I know the Bible says homosexuality is an abomination unto God and I'll stick to my belief's and believe that it's wrong and monogamy is what God wanted and what God created and is the right thing!

Dear, you can argue until you are blue in the face, and you will never push a bible believing Christian off the rock of God's word. You don't believe it, won't live by it? Okay. I do.
