I've lived in perth all my life so I know all the best places to go!
In perth city-
The bell tower- by the perth foreshore- walk the steps to the top too see a great view.

WA museum- its free! nice place just to have a look around.

Forest Chase- Centre of the city, if your lucky might be a show on

Kings Park- Huge!! choose from by the river walk, nature walk, foresty walk, wild walk etc. don't forget to go on the walkway in the sky- great views!!

Out of Perth-
We only have one major amusement park- Adventure world- nothing fabulous especially if u r american but not bad.

Rottnest Island-
A MUST!! catch the ferry at barrack st. jetty (near the bell tower) to Fremantle, stay there a bit-great place for lunch, oldest place in perth. If ur a thrill seeker do the GREAT fremantle jail night tour- go through underwater caves underneath the jail on a little canoe- the ferry from freo to rotto can be pretty bumpy but the beaces in rotto are the best- The Basin is beatiful for snorkling and swimming.

Beaches-
for surfing- trigg or scarborough
swimming- cottlesloe, city beach - the lifesavers are great- im one of them :)
All about a 15minute drive from perth.

Hilarys- good for the kiddies, nice day out

Clubs and pubs-best ones are in freo

Perth zoo- loads of fun

Bushwalking, animals- the closest real bushwalk is near mundaring weir called the bibbulum track- kangaroos, goannas, wallabies, birds etc.

Hope that helped, cya round!

There are basically a few "must-do" items and a few "must-visit" places.

1) Fremantle for a taste of the Italian culture (both food and drinks). The Fremantle market is a nice place to purchase some unique items. The cappucino strip is a great place to hang out and watch the world go by with a cuppa. The nightlife in Fremantle over the weekends is fairly good. A few clubs, a few breweries in Fremantle are worth visiting. Have a few drinks and good food at Little Creatures.

2) Subiaco - great for shopping or a sunday stroll. A few nice boutiques. But if you can get your hand on a couple of footy game tickets, it'll be good fun to be at the games.

3) Kings Park - lovely views and a good spot particularly on a sunny day. Good walking paths and ways to view some of the flora and fauna of WA

4) Margaret River - take a winery tour, visiting different wineries in the region as well as great beaches along the way.

5) Northbridge - the chinatown of Perth, great food and good night-life. Visit the brass monkey for a good beer or two.

When I look back at the photos, rotto stands out. We had such a great time on this island. I wish we could have stayed for more than a day.
Cottesloe. Some of the best pictures of my children were taken on this beach. And my husband loved it because of the occaional topless sun bather.
Margret river / karri forest. We stayed at the Karri Valley resort. Located in the karri forest, on it's own little lake. Most suites are private cabins. had some great moments in a kiak.
Visit all the wineries up there. Yummy!
Don't get sucked into the pinnacle tours, SOOOOOOOOOOO BORING! The sand dunes were fun. Fremantle was ok, but I didn't spend enough time there to enjoy it.
I spent alot of time in the subburb of Ellenbrook, because that is where my mother lives, so we visited Hilarys, aquarium and drank alot of wine in the swan valley wine region.
I think it is beautiful. I can't wait to go explore other areas of perth.

You MUST check out Caversham Wildlife Park.

http://www.cavershamwildlife.com.au/

I went there during my trip to Perth and had the absolute time of my life. I got to hold a kangaroo and a wombat. It was great!

I don't know when you are planning your trip but mine was over Australia Day (jan. 26) weekend and the whole city just came alive. Fireworks on the river, parties in the park, it was the best!!

I always describe Perth as heaven on earth. The beaches are magnificent! They city overall is a great place to visit and I am sure you will have tons of memories no matter what you decide to do.

Have fun!
