I work for an FBO in northern Ca. Aeroshell 15W50 is the top seller. Most engine in our area can get by with Aeroshell W100. Some Lycoming engines require Aeroshell W100+, which has LW16702 (anti-scuff additive) incorporated in its blend.

always, but always use the oil recommended by the aircraft manufacturer !!! NEVER try to mix or replace by other types or viscosity oils than the required. it is a simple safety matter.
