Full gestation is 280 days--40 weeks--from the time of the woman's last menstral period. But during two of those weeks (the first two) there's actually no baby in the womb because conception hasn't even taken place at that point. The least amount of time that any baby has spent inside the womb and survived is 21 weeks 6 days, though generally the age of viability is said to be 24 weeks.

It depends. Naegele's rule is typically used to calculate due dates of pregnant women. "This approximates to the average normal human pregnancy which lasts 40 weeks (280 days) from the LMP, or 38 weeks (266 days) from the date of fertilisation."

But that being said, in another study in which the average length of uncomplicated human gestation calculated, there was a noticable difference in length compared to the above rule in both primaparas and multiparas.

"For primiparas, the median duration of gestation from assumed ovulation to delivery was 274 days, significantly longer than the predicted 266 days (P = .0003). For multiparas, the median duration of pregnancy was 269 days, also significantly longer than the prediction (P = .019)."

Note that the above states this is the median point of where half of the women in those categories had gone into spontaneous uncomplicated labor, and half were still waiting.

Its 40 weeks from your LMP Date (First day of your last menstrual period). Never consider that to be a fact because I had one of my children at 37 weeks and the other at 38 weeks. If your in doubt about a due date or something an ultrasound would be the best way to go!

actually the typical gestation period is 40 weeks, BUT you are not pregnant during the first one or two weeks (before ovulation and actually pregnancy takes place) but it isn't that EASY to PIN POINT down to the SECOND you become pregnant so they "estamate".

They say 40 weeks but its really 38 weeks, the first two weeks are not counted since conception is two weeks after the onset of your period.

37-40 weeks; although it can be earlier or a little later than this. Earlier than 37 weeks is considered premature.
