How can those "Universal Churches" offer the general public, degrees in certain areas (philosophy, reflexology, etc ) and an Ordained Minister AND give you "authentic looking" diplomas, then tell you that you are authorized to use the title of : Phd, Dr, Rev. and perform weddings, funerals, baptisms etc??? Whats up with that?

They can because they're a church that acts as a conduit between the non-official church of your choice and the government. They believe that everybody should be able to practice the religion of their choice, and they will send you a certificate of ordination for their church, which will allow you to practice your religion as you wish. I'm a reverend of the Church of the Subgenius through the Universal Life Church.

I found one of them which would ordain you without even paying a fee on the Internet.

So I had my dog Ordained.

I wonder how a county clerk would feel seeing a paw print on a marriage license?

Pastor Art

PS: In case anyone is curious, I became a Pastor in 1974 while serving as a campus minister at Illinois State University. After that I started up a new church in Streator, Illinois, then was a campus Pastor at Syracuse University. So I've been a real pastor long before the Internet. I'm currently working on planting a new church in Florida.

It is only paper and has no backing. They have registration before the Govt as non profit and can ordain, but the rest Phd ect they don't have a school behind them so the paper isn't worth much..
