I live in Chicago, IL. I lost my wallet, do i have to report them to the police department? Why?

I went to police station today and they told me they didn't file a report for that because it has no value??? I am afraid someone will use my name and DL number and i will be held responsible. Should i demand a report?

Yes you do, and unfortunately you will probably have to now bring a copy of your birth certificate, along with the Police report to get new ones. Call the Secretary of States office first in case they require additional information.
I hope you don't have any problem with identity theft. You may want to notify your credit card company, or bank.

You are under no obligation to report them lost/stolen, but to get replacements a police report will be helpful. Also, it is good to report in case someone begins using your information (identity theft), with a police report you can show that as of a certain date your information had been stolen.

Hope this helps.

You dont have to but if they use your credit/debit card you will be liable for any charges. Your bank wants a police report to prove it was stolen and will not hold you liable. Someone stole mine and charged over 400 dollars before I could report it stolen to the bank. I showed them my police report and I did not have to cover the charges.

Normally if you do and take a copy of the report, you get it replaced free ( or at least you used to)

Also if it is used by someone else you have proof.

Because if the person that stole your drivers license uses it and identifies themself with it after committing a crime, then you will get in trouble
