You can buy a PDF program, the leader is probably Adobe Acrobat.
A good free program is CutePDF. It installs as a printer, so all you need to do is print to it. www.cutepdf.com

You can't.
However, if you download "OpenOffice", you can easily do it from that. And it's totally free, and fully compatible with Microsoft Word and Excel files.
