Could it be that they are "looking" at you, as they are embarrassed that they did sneeze or cough in such a close proximity of you?
You are correct that it is bad manners, and it should not happen, and they should use a handkerchief or tissue. However it is quite possible that you perceive it the wrong way. You really should give them the benefit of the doubt, even though I do agree with you that it is rude, and they are being insensitive.

Some people do it for sympathy- like my sister who carries a kleenex box around with her when she has a cold, some people I haven't been able to figure it out- I guess they are just biligerant type people who want to rip into somebody- so they tempt you to get angry with them first by being as annoying as possible. Then others, cough all the time because they smoke- they get so used to coughing that they just don't care when and where they do it because they don't notice it so much.
But let me say, sometimes when I get a cough, it lasts for 2-3 weeks; I can't afford to stay home for 2-3 weeks, and even with antibiotics sometimes I'm still hacking for a while, so what am I to do; lose my job and fail all my classes everytime I get a little sick? Or take a medical leave from work twice a year? Its not realistic. And sometimes when people are sneezing its just allergies, and some people have allergies year round even with medication, so what are they to do, live in a bubble? Try and be a little more tolerant.

It is a sign of strength to live normally through a cold rather than act lazy and wanting pity when having one.
Maybe people aren't becoming weaker. Maybe times are hard and less people have the luxury of laying around and playing the sick game. Maybe hospitals and doctors cost too much to visit. Or maybe there is more stress in the world, and stress is bad for the immune system.

I dont think people can help but cough and sneeze when they have a cold and you do not know the circumstances they are in so you cannot tell why they cna't stay at home......and chek into a hospital? Come on......who would do that....the ER has much more important emergencies to cope wiht rather than the common cold....how do u even know if they are sick...they might have hayfever or are allergic to your perfume. Also, maybe you misread the "daring" look. They may be looking at you apologetically or embarassed. My suggestion to you is to lock yourself in a white, clean , filtered room and not go out into society.........sorry.

I think the look is out of self consciousness having the concerns of spreading. And it is very hard to stay home. An employer may give 5 sick days a year but a cold can last weeks.

you aren't very smart are you...you must be young...because even if you have a cold sometimes you still have to go to work...or you need to be somewhere...and people sneeze because they have too...sometimes you can't help it...and i'ts a waste going to a hospital for a cold...a waste of money and a waste of your time...because they will end up giving you the ecxact same thing you get at a pharmacy...it's also annoying when people come into the hospital to get treated for a cold...a cold isn't really a desiese if you dno't like getting colds then keep yourself inside a bubble or something...

Geeze, learn a little patience. If someone's sick they don't necessarily have the luxury of taking sick days so they have to go out in whatever coughing/sneezing state they're in. If someone is having a sneezing fit, keep walking or don't look. Or here's a thought - offer them a tissue rather than being so rude. You wouldn't want someone gawking at you if you were in that situation.

It's called work ethic.
If people didn't work or go to school or go out in public to shop for groceries for their hungry families when they had a cold, the economy would be in a disastrous state.
But I think there should be larger handkerchiefs and tissues available and people should be using them!!!

And why do people only come to visit when they are sick? Do they like spreading it, too?
Germs are supposed to be growing stronger because they are building resistance to antibiotics.
