myths don't have a gender

2007-05-16 16:37:40 · answer #1 · answered by Jason Bourne 5 · 3 4

Gender, which is a quality possessed in English by nouns, does not particularly apply to the divine. Not even sex would be applicable.

If God, as most people imagine God to be, actually exists, God would be an asexual being. Sex evolved to defend organisms against parasites, and most religionists would agree that God would not be a victim of parasites, unless, of course, one counts the clergy.

Does gender really matter that much to people. I think if there is a God. Gender would be rather unnecessary.

God has no gender. Gender isn't the same as biological sex. Gender is a status that a culture dictates. Thus the term 'gender roles'.

God has no gender, but is usually refered to as "He" because if one is in doubt, you refer to that entity in the masculine form by default (it's a matter of linguistics in several if not all languages).

Quran, and islam does not specify the gender of God, in fact no one knows what is the nature of the creator. however there is only one verse that discribes God(allah) in sura alnoor:
"Allah is the light of heavens and of the earth. the similitude of of his light is as a niche wherein is a lamp. the lamp is in a glass, the glass, is as it were glittering star, lighted from a blessed tree, an olive tree, neither from the east nor from the west, it's oil would amost glow even if no fire touched it. light upon light(God). allah guides whom he wills to his light and Allah sets forth parables to men, for Allah knows about everything" page 353 of the holy Quran.
