I just sit there and think to myself, "That was pretty stupid". It's pretty much impossible to agree with absolutely everything the preacher says.

If this is a big belief held by the pastor (not just a joke) and is brought up often, I'd find another church. There are many good churches that teach truth and make it applicable to life today. However, when you watch a movie or TV show and you don't agree with something minor on there, you just ignore and take what you can and agree with from it.
I don't know what your pastor's teaching, but there's nothing like that in any bible I've ever read! When Jesus washed His disciples feet, He said that His followers should think of themselves as servants. But this included husbands being servants to their wives too: check out Ephesians 5:25.

I raise my hand, wave it till he recogises me and tell him where he's wrong. If He can't back up what he is saying in scripture then he shouldn't be saying it.
Second thing. No one really cares or gives a hoot about what you think modern times dictate. Modern times dictate that we should all just party till we drop and fill our heads with the slop coming out of the TV or Hollywood. Modern times dictate that we tolerate all kinds of behavour that is against scripture.
The only standard you should judge what he says by is if its scripturally sound. And as far as I'm concerned my wife is not my slave or my servant she is my equal (scriptural) and I sacrifice my wants daily to make her happy (scriptural) as she does I. Been married 32 great years. I think it would have been less than two if I had treated my wife as a servant. She's a fireball. Love her dearly.
Flindo61 - Guess what! You have no idea what that verse is saying because you don't know the greek you haven't studied the culture and your obviously simple minded enough to shout at people in an answer.

If you're ignoring parts of the Bible, the sermon isn't your problem. Deal with that issue first. In this case, it sounds like you just don't agree with what the Bible says, so don't shoot the messenger - he's just doing his job.
BTW, since when did "modern times" have anything to do with Biblical application? Coming into "Modern times" is what has gotten us so far away from God that we don't recognize Him in His simplest manifestations.
Instead of leaving, I'd suggest you sit right there & pay careful attention to what's being taught. He ain't up there for his health, you know...

I think that washing a man's feet could really mean something else and not really mean washing his feet literally its just some old guy telling another guy to write it all down....that is really what the bible is...a list of guys telling each other old stories...so when you are listening to the sermon...each and every person is thinking different things...the message could be different at times i think....it depends on what you want to hear....

If I hear something I don't agree with, or do not understand, I approach the pastor after service and ask for an explanation, or a modern application of the text in question.
I've learned a lot that way. But perhaps it's best to find a Bible TEACHING church rather than a Bible PREACHING church.
There's a huge difference.

First of all, I don't ignore parts of the Bible, because how can you pick and choose what parts God really meant, and which parts that he doesn't really care about? Did he tell you?
That aside, if I disagree with the pastor, I usually send him a polite e-mail that afternoon explaining specifically what I disagreed with, and why. Or if it is something that I think is trivial, I just let it go.

Well, we shouldn't be ignoring parts of the Bible, but I don't think you should ignore the sermon either. Check it with Scripture and if you've found things that don't line up, bring it to the pastor and talk to him about it. I'm sure the last thing either of you want is a misinterpretation or misunderstanding. If he explains it to you and you DID interprety him correctly and you still don't agree, I'd say to ask yourself how crucial an issue of faith it is for you. The Bible talks about not getting into petty arguements about the faith (not exact quote of course) and I think Satan will try and tear churches and relationships apart by twisting God's own word and making us think we always have to be right. Everyone interprets different parts of scripture in a different way...like calvinism and arminianism (the endless debate) so be careful it's not an issue that's like that. If you do think it's a crucial faith matter, don't keep yourself in an environment that you feel with keep you from growing in your relationship with God. Pray about it, and if you feel like it's best, find a new church that will nurture your faith. God Bless!

talk to him/her after the sermon is over.sometimes thats the best way to address your concerns.
you may find, just maybe, your in the wrong place.
remember this...we are not under the old law[of moses] anymore.
read 1corinthians 7:1-9..man and woman are equal.
matthew 19:4-6..man and woman are one flesh
matthew 22:37-40..if we are to LOVE are neighbor as ourselves[man and woman]and we are to love god with all our heart, soul, and strength......than how can the woman be expected to wash feet and such?the man also should...by jesus' account.

Some preachers interpret the bible WRONG. I would get out of that church and go to one that only studies the bible or you can blow off what he said. Personally, I would find a nondenominational bible church.

It's disrepectful to yourself to sit there. If you are uncomfortable there are probably 20 other people thinking the same thing. I you get up and walk out you are taking a stand. It likely creates the opportunity for conversation later, both with your preacher and with others. Just cause he's the preacher doesn't make it right. Make you stand and speak your truth.
