I have a horrible toothace and this tooth has been bothering me for a lonnng time. I went to the dentist a month or so ago, and he gace me a root canal, and now the same tooth hurts again. My real dentist was sick at the time and they let a temp do my tooth, i had 1 root canal(both with temp dentist) and when i went back to finish the 2nd one the temp dentist forgot what he was supposed to do and almost gave me a crown. It seems like my teeth have gotten worse since i saw that dumb temp dentist. can i sue him, because now the tooth he supposedly fixed that cost like $500 now is in the worst pain ive ever experienced. what do i do? i dont have money to go to a different dentist but im scared to go to my same one.

I had a root canal done two years ago and now I am having a similar problem.

Don't be afraid of your dentist! A lot of what goes on in the dentist's office is a "mind over matter" issue. If you mentally psych yourself out, you will anticipate problems that are non-issues. You are owed a standard of care, and he is beholden to a Code of Ethics as a practicing dentist.

Have your dentist take a PA (periapical x-ray) of the tooth to ensure that the root was properly filled and there is no infection present in the gum tissue surrounding the tooth. He/she may prescribe antibiotics if this is the case. You have to take them until you finish all of the medication, regardless of whether or not you feel better.

In my situation, I have to have an apicoectomy. It is a routine procedure, but an inconvenience nonetheless.

Good luck!

I'm sorry you're in pain, a toothache can be the worst pain ever. Is your original dentist back? Try talking to him, don't wait. This info I got from this site: www.atlantadentist.com/root_canal_toothache.html

Some completed root canals fail and can cause a root canal toothache. There are many reasons for failure, but in most cases, the failure is because of an inadequate seal inside one of more canals. Root canal therapy has changed dramatically over the years. We now use biocompatible filling materials that do not irritate the surrounding bone. An apex locater uses sonar to find the exact end of the root canal so that the entire root canal can be sealed. It was not long ago that a dentist had to guess where the end of the canal was by looking at the x-ray. Lots of important developments have occurred that make re-treating an old root canal a good idea. If you've just had a root canal completed and you have a root canal problem, it might be that the tissues surrounding your root canal tooth are inflamed. With severe inflammations, the dentist may prescribe an anti-inflammatory like Decadron Dose Pak.

I hope you get rid off your pain soon.

I'm sorry I can't help you with your dentist problems but it does sound like you will need to do something pretty quickly. In the meantime, though, to deal with the pain, take a teabag and soak it in warm water. Place it on the tooth and bite down very gently on it. Leave it there for awhile and the pain should ease. Something about the tannic acid in the tea really helps. Hope you feel better soon.... :-)

I'm sorry for your pain. I too, had a root canal, and the pain should have stopped after you had the root canal. Your regular denstist should be back by now. Have your tooth rechecked by your regular dentist.
As for suing, I would at least demand a refund on my dental bill.
