what do you do if food gets stuck in your gums?

The best thing to do is swish with peroxide. Mix 1oz peroxide and 1 oz mouthwash together and swish. Peroxide tastes horrible so you need the mouthwash to mask the taste and to dilute the peroxide. Straight peroxide will burn your gums. I am a dental hygienist. My boss and I recommend this to all our patients.
Flossing will help too, but is some cases, you can jam the food particle in your gums more- especially if it is in the pocket area (which is the area around your tooth that the pesky popcorn kernel gets stuck in).
If none of this helps, see your dentist or hygienist!

THAT'S WHY I DON'T EAT POPCORN. BUT, ON A SERIOUS NOTE, USING MY WATERPIK MACHINE DAILY KEEPS FOODS FROM STICKING UNDER THE GUMS.
