I left a tip once when they were SUPER nice and got my order in less than 5 minutes at Chilis, but otherwise, I say no tip....just like if you pick up pizza or somthing...

all i have to say is if the ppl are that hard up for money maybe working in the "industry" is not for them and another job is in order. I don't tip if the service is bad, late, rude. If the food is disgusting I won't return to the place, but will not take it out on the waitress since she didn't make it. I wish I could tip the people who make my pizza and not the guy who just drives it to me. As for take out, if they give me a specific time and it's not ready I don't tip. If it's not ready when I get there during this given time, I don't. If it is fresh, hot and given in the time frame I was told AND the people were pleasant to deal with~then I tip.
just b/c somone works in the food business doesn't gaurantee them a tip. It's all about quality and service to me. To expect a tip just because you did your job is stupid and those people are working in the wrong field because they usually are the ones that give horrible half azz service and don't get tips.

It's up to you. I tip the people at Chili's when I pick up cuz they work really hard! That place is always busy! They answer the telephones, pack up the food, bus tables, and sometimes even have to go to the kitchen and make the take-out food when they're REALLY busy. And now they've added speakers at the pick-up parking spots, so they have to be carhops, too! These folks earn every cent of my tips!

The custom is not to tip when picking up takeout. You tip for special service or attention..... not for just giving you a paper bag.

They don't expect a tip when you pick it up, but you're certainly allowed to if you think they did a really good job or were very quick etc. My boyfriend tells me that it is customary to tip for pickup in Canada, but that's Canada.

If your order is correct, you should tip them. They take your order, prepare everything for it (sauces, dressings, crackers, silverware, etc) make sure it's correct, bag it, ring you up, and in many cases nowadays, run it out to your car. Also, if you frequent the restaurant you should definitely tip. They will remember you and make sure your order is always correct and not make you wait. Unfortunately, money does make the world go round and tipping will help you out in the long run. But just like tipping a waitress, if your "carryout server" is rude to you, etc you are not obligated to tip. But please don't go fishing for reasons not to tip! I think a good standard to-go tip is 10 to 15 percent. 20 if the person goes above and beyond for you. Hope this helps.

I give at least a five to ten percent tip depending on the time of year and quality of service. They have to package and haul it to your car where we pick up food. If it is winter or a holiday I would definitely give ten percent.

You tip 'em for the service they provide (i.e. bringing you the food, getting drinks on time, finding you a seat, personal chaperone, etc.) -- Great service = must be agood tip...
Bad service (i.e. food delivery is late, etc.) = little or no tip at all.
Sometimes it depends on your personal preferences and mood as well.
A LOT of times it will tend to depend on your budget! Heeheehee! =P

in some restaurants it is a waitress or waiter who gets your food together to 'serve' to you....even if it is in a to-go bag. they deserve to be tipped for the work they are doing.
but i only tip them 10% though. :)
