I would like to know why it is that so many of you out there choose to ask disrespectful question concerning religious matters. Does it make you feel good, cool, smart or funny? How would you respond if people chose to mock the things that are important to you?

I have wondered that too. I chat in Christian Chat in yahoo alot, and we get it there. If they absolutely hate christians in the manner they say they do, why flock like a moth to a flame to Christian Chat then. The only thing I can see (I know I did this too when I left God for all those years) Is that they feel the need to argue and debate something to keep believing the way they do. It just seems the more they do,the uglier they get.

I'll take your question seriously and try to answer it with a few observations made during a long life. I am totally non-religious, so I have no stake in the matter, but I notice people are often disrespectful of things they don't understand or are afraid of. Jews have put up with stupid jokes and horrible accusatons for centuries, because people don't have a clue what it is they believe. Worse, they are called Jesus Killers based on the New Testament version of the Bible. Jesus was a Jew and grew up in their traditions and laws.
Fun is made of Africa's Mumbo Jumbo, but those who believed in him took him very seriously. I'm not sure his religion is still around, but in his day he was pretty important. Our own country has incredible myths surrounding the religious practices of the many different groups we have. Our law only addresses the issue of a State mandated religion, which was added because in the England of the 1770's you had to belong to the religion of the Kind. Period.
Many of the present generation are unable to imagine their own deaths, so they must joke about anything to do with an afterlife. Pretending to act "cool" and un-concerned but inside sick with fear. Others have turned to a religion that promises an eternity of bliss.
Since you seem to be a believer, and probably Christian, just follow your Savior's lead and forgive those who mock you. I am not mocking you with this suggestion, because, while I don't believe Jesus was Devine, I admire his teachings and philosophy. Following it by turning the other cheek, forgiving those who mock and torment you and loving everyone, no matter how horrendous they are, is more than I care to try.
Just remember, those who think it is cool or funny to make fun of religious matters are probably terrified deep down because they have no solid core to rely on. They fear that when they die, they will wink out like a burned out light bulb.

Please don't ever misunderstand me when I say this, but I' m one of those people, whom have asked Religious questions!
Was never my intent to mock or disrespect anyone!
Rather only to understand more.
Myself was never raised to be a religious follower but not to say I don't believe in something or some greater power than what meets the eye.
I'm sorry if ever offended you or others. Was never my intent, so for me to keep asking question in the near future,Well I can't promise you that I won't.
It is in my nature to ask if does understand and not to mock anyone.
Thank you.

I also feel the need to include that I for one will be asking a lot more questions about Jesus since I just watched the video called, "Lost Tomb Of Jesus!"

Some people don't know any other way to make themselves feel better about something, than to attack or deride someone else. Yes, it's annoying; it's also very sad when you consider how miserable they must be. You wouldn't think they'd want to let everyone know how badly they feel about themselves, but they do it regularly. I should think they'd want to present themselves in a better light. Apparently, that part of it hasn't occurred to these people. I definitely hope they'll grow up soon.

I'm not saying I do, but in order to ask a disrespectful question, there is a presumption that something merits respect to begin with. I am assuming when you state "religious matters" you are referring to Western dogma, and in particularly Christian dogma.

I respect the right of people to live and let live. I have very little respect for a mindset that believes it will go to "heaven" while those that do not conform to their schism will go to "hell" and it should be rightfully pointed out, in my opinion, that this sort of arrogant mindset is not an acceptable attitude and is worthy of derision. Those that harbor such arrogant and self-serving beliefs have brought it on themselves. That's why people do it. With all due respect.

People who manifest the spirit of the world (whom satan is the ruler of) give evidence of certain basic attitudes, ways of doing things, and aims in life that are common to the present system of things. What are these characteristics?...doing what a person wants to do, without regard for the will of God, reacting to situations on the basis of pride, manifesting a rebellious attitude toward authorty, giving free rein to the desires of the fallen flesh, allowing one's life to be dominated by the desire to possess what one sees, showing off one's possessions, giving vent to one's emotions in abusive speech and violent acts, basing one's hopes and fears on what humans are able to do, and giving to humans and things the worshipful honor that belongs to God.

I really could care less if someone mocks things that are "important" to me because I don't devote my entire life to one single thing....also because I have a sense of humor.

I also don't have a stick up my *** about things that are important to me

Why do you mock those who mock? They find themselves to be important to them. So you are mocking things that people find important to them.

well, haven't you noticed that most of those questions are directed at christians? i'm a Buddhist, and no one here has mocked buddhism...actually the only people who have asked such rude questions and made rude statements about buddhism are christians.....

i think if christians learnt to be more polite to people of other religions and also to non religious people, others would stop mocking them......i have never seen a buddhist here ask or say anything disrespectful about christianity (i myself have on a few occasions stated that i'm not too fond of the behaviour of christians, but i respect christianity as a religion),but i have seen many christians saying that buddhism has satanic beliefs and buddhists believe in self torture and other such nonsense that are gross UNTRUTHS,not just mockery...

I actually believe that what soulful (dont remember name, the first answer) was right. Not that I agree with them, but it's because they just don't have respect for religion. It is hard for me to imagine someone that has no respect for God to have respect for anything, never mind questions.
