To much weight the in line 6, 230 cubic inch Chevy Or the cast iron 327 V-8? The better fit and it has been done before is replace the engine and transmission with a ford 5.0 with carb and C-6 transmission. The nissan transmission really suffers over 200hp and you will also want to replace the rear axle with a ford 9" too.

I had a 65 Chevy II (they weren't called Novas until later). It was the best car I've ever had (and I've had 22 in my life - for me, wife and children). It probably had a small 6 cyclinder (mine had a 194 CID) and a one barrel carb. You should be able to just get a rebuild kit and rebuild that carb (probably a Rochester). It's not that hard to do. A low restriction muffler would do (not a through pipe "cherry bomb") You aren't gonna make it into a fast car with that engine but it'll be fun and good reliable transportation, plus with a 6 cylinder it won't have that characteristic "lope" sound that V8 has anyway. Inline six cylinders have more like a steady constant "purr". Man, I'm jealous. I wish I had mine back. It is THE easiest car I've ever worked on (so much room between parts in engine compartment). Is it a 3 speed on the column? Great car..........except....... if you are used to driving cars with disc brakes (most are) that car won't stop ANYWHERE near as quickly with those drum brakes on the front and back. So make sure you don't tailgate or you may end up eating a bumper. Also if this car is in pretty good shape it'll be a likely car to be stolen so put some kind of alarm or fuel cutoff etc. It'd be a shame to get it "just right" and get it stolen. Good luck you lucky guy!

It will fit with slight modifications to engine mounds, exhaust modifications, wiring modifications.
It will fit but you have to use the transmission from GM car.
