They live in your TV, as many fictional characters do.

They don't really live there, you know. And it could be that most of the show is filmed near Newark, but a family like the Sopranos would not live there because it's not very upscale. They'd be in some nice, pricey suburb.

Actually, the exterior of the North Caldwell house is real. The interior shots however are shot in Silvercup Studios (Long Island City, right off the 59th Street Bridge.) As a matter of, the majority of interior shots (Bada Bing, Dr. Melfi's office) are shot in Silvercup.
However, for Artie Bucco's restaurant, that is shot in a restaurant called Punta Dora (on 34th Avenue off Steinway Street).
I'll give you a link to a fan site that will tell you ALL!

I tink the fictional house is in West Caldwell, Essex County. About 15-20 minuts from Newark.

tony soprano's house is in north caldwell, nj. other areas that have been filmed include lodi, belleville, bloomfield, newark, and kearny to name a few. tony also attended a few years at seton hall in south orange before dropping out. most of the show is filmed in a studio in long island though.
