I chose Sterling Marlin a year ago, when I first got into the sport. Since it was a year ago, a terrible year for him, I didn't just chose him because he was good. I didn't chose him because he was doing bad either. I knew he had done well, and in '06 he was faced with bad luck and an underdeveloped team. I chose him because of his personality and driving style. Sterling's a nice, hardworking, honest guy, the type of person you would see in NASCAR's begginings.
On the track he's a smart driver who knows the meaning of give and take. He's not going to hold up a car that's obviously faster than him, but if he's fast then he's going to fight hard for it. He's not over agressive with his bumper, but he'll use it if he has to.
To me, Sterling Marlin is what NASCAR is all about :)

I really got into NASCAR right before Sr died (in 1999 and 2000). I liked Sadler at first because he seemed pretty cool and was one of the newer guys at the time. When Jimmie Johnson started at the end of 2001 I had just met my wife (at the end of July) and she wasn't that much into racing. When she saw Jimmie she thought he was cute so that helped her cheer for him. I just thought he could drive a car from the moment he started. I've been more than impressed with him and his career so far. He's had the best run of any driver since he's been at it full time and it's been awesome cheering for him since day 1. He's not a dirty driver and despite the commercial with Sadler he's actually fairly humble.

I am a Tim Richmond fan from the 1980's Rick Hendrick's era. I am from his hometown and he was a personal friend of mine and I miss him very much.
The sport has never been the same since he died. Dale Senior was quoted many times (and verified by Junior a few years ago) that he felt he never would have won 7 championships had Tim lived. They were good friends.
He started in Sprints went to Indy and then Nascar and people laughed at him because they thought it was strange. They also thought he was strange because his parents started bringing their motorhome to the races so he could have a place to rest between everything that was going on. He also had his pilots license and flew to the tracks, showed up for his first test run (just like on the movie Days of Thunder which is loosely based on he and his crew chief) on a Harley Davidson, had a speedboat, built the first Nascar home on Lake Norman.....I could go on and on....and he was laughed at for all of this back then. Can you imagine?

My #1 favorite is Dale Jr! (He's a bad *** driver)
2.Jeff Gordon (awsome driver, even tho he can get a little whiney LOL)
3.Jimmy Johnson ( I call him the Shark, because he comes out of nowhere and just eats the other drivers up)
4.Clint Bowyer (because he's my honey's favorite)
5.Jeff Burton (I think he's a classy guy on and off the track)
6.Tony Stewert (Gotta love a bad boy)
7.Kenny Wallace (he's just too lovable, he's my underdog)
8.Ryan Newman (the Rocket man, cuz he's Jr's friend)
9.Kasey Kahne (He's a good driver, and he handles himself well)
10.Carl Edwards (the only driver I like in a Ford, he's just charming)

My Step-son got me into NASCAR and at the time he was a Big E Fan. We watched the 2001 Daytona 500 together and he said I had to pick a Driver. I asked who the guy in the car with the flames was; he said that is Jeff Gordon from California. I am from California, so I had to pick Jeff. Later I learned just how good he was and I am so glad I picked him to be my Driver.
p.s. Devon...quite having California envy Bro. There are more songs about California then all other States combined; and it is where everyone wants to visit at one time or another. So give Cali some LUV!!!!!
p.s.s. much love to all the Cali Drivers: Jeff, Jimmy, Kevin, Casey, David (Gilliland), and even Robby!!!!!

I have my favorite and that is Mark Martin. He first really appealed to me many years ago, not only because of his ability to drive the car, but also his sportsmanship and he is just humble. I find him endearing, on the track and with his fans. I am also very Loyal to him.
That said there are other drivers I like a lot and clap for even when they beat out my favorite, because they are cool in their own respect. My short list of other drivers I really hoop and holler for are( all currently running full or part time) : Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Jr. ( and I was not a Sr. fan), Tony Stewart, Kyle Petty, Awesome Bill, Kenny Wallace. Mikey Waltrip, Bobby Labonte (Bomba DaBomba as my nephew used to call him), Boris Said, Jamie McMurray, Joe Nemechek, Sterling Marlin, Elliott Sadler, Ken Schrader and any of those Bodine boys.
I like most only 2 I actively boo. ( and for those wondering, no not a one is a Hendrick Driver) I actually have a good reason for not liking them so much. And I really cheer when there is a variety of winners. I love the Craven/Busch race win. And as much as I hated it for Mark, this years Daytona 500 finish is what racing finishes in the past 10 races have lacked! (luster) Miss those finishes and we need to see more.
Plus, I really am a big DeLana Harvick fan. I used to not care so much for Kevin, but with some of his shows of respect for vets, and being smart enough to pick DeLana. She's the coolest. I also like the drivers for their pick as a spouse, it really says a lot about them.

Yeah I thought Casey Mears was hot at first too, I still do, but now I like him for many reasons. He is a nice guy, I've met him twice and he's always very friendly with his fans. Also, he isn't a dirty driver, he never pays anyone back the next week. Casey is also the nephew of my racing hero, Rick Mears. I harass JR fans all the time about liking him because of who his daddy was, but the Mears name is the second thing that drew me to him after that sweet smile of his.

I have watched various drivers run several different series. When I watch themrun their first few races I look for the way they handle the car and track andother drivers.
Some(most) drivers get to the point things that happen on the track is blamed on everyone else. This frustration is relayed to the media by their speech. Some are objective critical others are inrage critical.
Bottom line is the way they handle themselfs aroundtheir peers. This is as important as the driving ability.

I like a clean racer who shows sportsmanship for all other drivers not just teammates. Mark Martin is a prime example of that. Bill Elliott was like that too. I think today my favorites are Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards. They may be young drivers but they race clean and have Top 5 finishes.

Actually I never really cared for Jeff Gordon, but I didn't follow NASCAR. When I moved to Charlotte I soon found out that it seemed like everyone wanted to kill the man. I felt kind of sorry for him and since then have been pulling for him.
