While the first answerer is right that it all depeneds on how hard you work, I think for the same effort walking is probably a more complete workout. This is assuming you aren't working your heart rate up to your anaerobic threshold (the point at which you start to breathe really hard and can't talk). For the lower aerobic zones, walking uses more muscles, and is what they call a 'load bearing' excercise - you're using your musculoskelatal structure to support your weight. Of load bearing exercises, walking is 'low impact' and running is 'high impact'.

Once you start really working up into your aerobic rates, cycling becomes a better workout because there is less stress on your structure therefore you can do it alot longer. A longer workout means more fat (calories) gets burned. A harder cycling workout means standing on the pedals to go up hills which works your abdominals, shoulders, and biceps, as well as pushing the pedals harder when seated which will develop and tone your glutes and quads. Riding at the higher pace will also dramatically improve your cardiovascular system, again, because you can maintain it longer than walking or running.

feel the burn, baby......

Bicycle riding

The added weight of a bicycle, wind resistance, and road/tire resistance increases the rate of calorie burn on a bicycle vs. walking or running.

Better yet, as you get in shape and go faster, the rate of calorie burn will go up at a faster rate than if you walked or ran faster.

I use a heart rate monitor while I work out. While walking for a half hour I burn around 400 k/Cal's, While biking it's more like 470 k/Cal's. It could be that I just put more of an effort in while biking but for me the bike is best.

Biking burns more calories per minute, walking burns more calories per mile.

So if you have 45 minutes, hard biking is better.

If time is not an issue and you are going to a preset place, walking burns more fat cells.

riding a bicycle builds endurance gradually because there is stress when you pedal, and you try to keep yourself centered the whole time so your abs unconciously contract.

It would depend on how far you biked, and how fast you walked. Not enough information here.
