Not really odd, just awkward.
Now my best friend from elementary school is married to a man who has a daughter 2 years older and 2 years younger than his bride.
His younger daughter is married to the boy I had a crush on all the way through high school.
Small town living at its finest!

Unusual, but I had a step son that was about 5 -6 years younger and if you really love your spouse it doesn't matter. Just realize you have to always respect his feelings and hopefully he will yours.

A bit odd, yes... but at the same time no. Because it'll be hard for him to call you "Mom", but at the same time, you'll understand him and his feelings a lot better because there's no age gap. It may even be easier to build that relationship that step-parents have trouble creating because the child doesn't want to accept them or is having trouble getting past the mind block. So yes, it's odd, but at the same time, it's helpful :) Good luck!
