when you use transfer wizard with a flash?

Question

does it just copy your files and settings to be transferred to another computer or does it totally erase them from the old computer? also should i use another flash to put my things in safe keeping while I add my other files and settings from my old computer or will it keep it all divided, like my Microsoft Money program which is in both but different accounts? Please explain to me. Thanks in advance.
