For me ..I just love the art..Many of mine don't have "meaning" although they remind me of different stages in my life..I love them all..the old and the new..I think of them as the ultimate piece of couture..just like a great pair of jeans or a designer accessory..Everyone has different reason and to each is his own!

I have tattoos for different reasons. I got one when I quit smoking after 30 years. This tattoo actually helps keep me from becoming a smoker again. My other tattoo is a cover up and I like this tattoo for the original piece of custom artwork that it is....

to show parts of their personality through the images displayed on their body and some get them in memory of people or events. And some people just like getting tattoos because they love the art.

Some people get tattoos to express themselves. Some people get it because it's a family tradition (IE some Samoans pass down family tattoos). It's a different meaning for each person that has them.
Personally, I got mine for several reasons. I love butterflies, so I have several different types of butterflies to represent different points in my life.

Well I got tattoos fist of all because they fit my personality and I think it looks good. And of course because they have a meaning to me.
I designed two tattoos that are supposed to bring me strength and protection (f.ex the panther which is my totem animal).

some just get one. but like me, i am getting one to represent this stage in my life. i have been going through a lot of problems. and it has been extremely rough, but im overcoming it. and i want a tattoo to symbolize how strong i was to be able to handle this.

They want to carry symbols of memories from their lifetime. Every tattoo has a meaning to it.

There is no one reason as to why people get tattoos...some people do it to be "cool" (I don't like this reason), some people use it to celebrate or mourn events or people in their life, some people get them simply because they like tattoos...there are MANY reasons...

I got mine because I wanted it, it has meaning to me, and it's my body. If they aren't for you they aren't for you .... I wont tell you (if you are against them) that you are wrong as long as you don't call me a sinner, trashy, whatever else you could think of because I have one. It's a matter of personal choice and no one has the right to make a right or wrong judgment about another. Hope I helped!

I don't know for others, but I know for myself that I got one for the death of my best friend, another is a matching one with my husband and the last was for my birthday. They're just images that mean something to me.
