It depends which denomination you belong to.
The main references towards homosexuality are in the Old Testament (near the part where we are told to stone our daughters for not remaining virgins before marriage).
Some Christian denominations such as Anglicans and Lutherans tend to view the Old Testament as a cultural text created by man and the society that existed in the time it was written, and as such primarily follow the New Testament and the teachings of Jesus and therefore are quite comfortable with the idea of same sex relations.
However some denominations (Baptists, Catholic) tend to take the Old Testament more literally, and have kept the immorality associated with homosexuality within their beliefs.
It is important to note there is strong evidence that Jesus himself performed blessings for same sex couples, and there was acceptance of same-sex couples in the past (Saints Sergius and Bacchus were a gay couple) although the Catholic church has tried, over centuries, to downplay this.
Furthermore, homosexuality is not even mentioned in the 10 commandments.
Yes, you can be a Christian and gay.
Jesus was a man of love, not hate.

I know a lot of homosexuals who are Christian. Yea, I hear a lot of things in R&S about how you can't be both, but no one is going to tell me that these homosexuals that I know aren't going to heaven. Quite a few of the ones I know are the sweetest people on the face of this earth. And, they are professing Christians.
I think a lot of the homosexual population avoids Christianity because of what "Christians" say. But let me ask you this: What would Christ say?
Just like he took up for the adulterous woman who was about to be stoned to death, he would stand up for these people too. So, I say to you: he who is without sin, let him/her cast the first stone.

I suppose they can consider themselves both Christian and gay at the same time and there will always be somebody to agree with them, but I don't see the spirit of homosexuality being compatible with the spirit of Christianity. In almost every case homosexuality is about hedonism and rebellion at some level. The church says that if they truly believe they are gay they should be celibate to be in a state of grace.

Salvation is because of Jesus sacrifice. You can still have many sins in your life and yet be saved, as your standing with God is based on Jesus' righteousness.
They probably do not see homosexuality as a sin (which is pretty much how mainstream Western Society at this time sees things), or have some have issues making them behave in that way. People for instance get addicted and don't necessarily understand why they are addicted .. drug addictions can be tied into all sorts of emotional problems from early childhood or whatever.
It is declared to be sin in Romans 1, and other places.
However, it would make you relationship with God less good, and will reduce your reward. People involved in it are not supposed to be in church leadership for that reason .. although natural ambition will make some hanker for such position.

YES. However, you cannot have sex with the same sex nor can you marry the same sex. Hence, you would be living a celibate life. Don't let people throw stones at you and just pick up your cross and follow Christ.
p.s. I have been thinking about this question and did a little research. Following is the official position of the Catholic Church:
Catechism of the Catholic Church
Article 6
THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT
Section II The Vocation To Chastity
Chastity and Homosexuality
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominantly sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and , if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

For a long time I thought you could, I thought I was but then God showed me it's impossible. The Bible is the only authoritative word of God and it says that God hates Sin. Sexual immorality is a sin. If you are truly a Christian you are going to want to be obedient and serve God and there is no way you can do that and be saved and still willfully sin by being homosexual. It is a choice, once you really repent and ask Christ to work in your heart and make you hate sin, he will do the change.

Yes, but if you are a Christian, then you know that being a homosexual is not what is intended by God. I am not saying that they would have to change their ways or anything like that, but as a Christian that believes in everything the Bible teaches they would know what they have to do to please God. If they continue in their ways then they are not repenting and asking to be forgiven, are they?
