Offer to clean the house for her or do the laundry. If she's going to plant flowers in the yard, you could do that for her. The best thing my son could do for me if he were in your situation, would be to say he'd spend the day with me--go to the park or for a long walk, go antique hunting (I know he hates it which would make it even more special), or something that would convey you want to spend time with her. You probably don't talk much so this would be a great time for the both of you. She'll probably be so happy with you that she'll take you shopping or buy you dinner! You're a good kid!

Get up make her breakfast in bed would be great but it is Friday. She may even have to get work. forty is something we don't always want to look at :) .You could always do an early dinner. If you live in O.C. You know there's some killer places to eat before the concert. Have fun and Happy Forty to your mom.

The things that matters most to mothers are not what can be bought but intangible things. Make a card for her describing how much she meand to you .. you can make a really good card right on the compter and tell her how much she helped you through life make her feel that much more special. Put your self in her shoes, if she could not afford a present for you .. what would you like most ? Spend time with her surpise her with breakfast in bed. Do spontaneous things make it unique. Do things she would least expect. Everywhere you know she goes, pick flowers and put a note describing one time she helped you so much in life or write one word that describes her. Doing your chores is something you're SUPPOSED to do .. so doing them will not be anything special.

Ok, I love this question. First, you are a great kid for even thinking about your moms feelings. She knows your situation so you could do a couple things. Ideas:
Ask her for a few bucks and to take you to the store and then separate so you can pick a gift for her. She might think that's cute.
Or make her a heartfelt card that says something clever like "Reasons why I like/love/appreciate my mom" then list on the inside. Could be funny or serious.
Pick her some flowers from outside.
Give her something of yours that is a symbol. (your going to be creative) Then make her dinner. She wont care if you burn it. Just do it when she's there.
Give her a coupon that says I.O.U. and let it say like "I will do one load of dishes/ vacuum for you today. without complaining"
Trust me ................MOMS LOVE THIS STUFF.
Just do something, anything. Give her a hug. Just dont' not do anything.

Send her an ecard if she uses email regularly. Just go to Americangreetings.com. They are all free for the next two days, I think. Make her breakfast in bed, or clean the house for her after school or both. Make dinner with dad or sisters etc., and let her relax. Mostly she just wants to know you have thought about her. You're the most important thing in the world to her and she doesn't need "stuff" from you.

As a mom I agree with the others, the best gift I got was the card that was like a flower and every pettal was a coupon for a chor or treat ...like 1 back rub, breakfast in bed, dishwasher etc.

You could lend some money to somebody else and to buy a gift.If not, cook something for her;write a love poem for her and tell her how deep is your love for her;she will understand
Next time, save some money in advance.

why not grab one of her cookbooks and make her a meal with whatever is in the house? is there a cake or brownie mix in the house? make that. even if it doesn't come out well, she'll love the fact that you went to the trouble for her.
