There are certain litters that are flushable...Arm and Hammer has one and Scoop Away has one. They are made to break down. However, non flushable litters are not safe and could clog your toilet and sewage (youd have a major mess).

You can IF you start using recycled newspaper, corn cob or pine litter. Think about putting clumping litter, which turns into a big hard ball once it's wet, into a pipe. Bad news...
It you want to skip this problem all together, just toilet train your cat, like I'm doing! No more litter box! Here, Here!

DO NOT use your toilet to get rid of litter waste. I just spent $1000.00 to have my pipes and septic system repaired due to throwing the litter down the toilet. I was just to friggin lazy to take it outside. After spending a grand, I make the effort. The plumber just laughed when he took my money. All because of cat litter.

No, for most types of litter. Most litter is clay based, and will clog your drains eventually.
There are products made of organic materials such as corn, or pine tree chips. I think the corn ones instruct you to use the toilet, though I'm not sure about the tree chip based litter.

There are some litters that are safe to flush -- Feline Pine is one. Your average litter, however, should definitely not be flushed. And I wouldn't switch to another kind if your cat(s) is already used to what they have.

Depends on the litter. If u have clumping litter then it will clog your pipes. If not, then I say take the chance. If you are unsure, see what brand your friend uses and use that.
