Actually, they're not difficult to find. I guess it all depends where you live. Any good wine or german specialty store should carry them. I don't have trouble getting them in California. :)

I guess it depends what you are looking for. I love German wine, and they always carry a few varieties at the local grocery stores. They aren't the best quality, and the selection of reds is limited, but if we want better German wines we can go to a local German store (German Gourmet, in northern Virginia).

German wines are normally produced in the Rhine region and they are sweet and not that popular.

It is very expensive to ship and there are some very good American wines.

Not sure. However, if you are in the Detroit area, Frankenmuth, Mi has a great selection.
