I straighten them out, keep one in my closet and use the hook part to slide under box lids on top shelves to help pull boxes down.
I keep one that is straightened in a utility closet and wind tape on the straighter end to reach into areas where I've dropped small items (i.e.-a sock behind the dryer).
I also use a taped end to clean the area inside the lint area of the dryer.
I've used them to snag something that made its way under an appliance-a coin that rolled, cereal that spilled, etc.
I've used them to poke a paper towel into a small area for the same reason of a spill that went under an appliance.
I've used them to poke a damp paper towel in a small, dusty space.
As a last ditch effort that worked, I used the straightened end of a coat hanger to scrape mineral build-up in the toilet bowl.
However, I hate wire hangers as much as Mommy Dearest and replace any with a plastic hanger when they find their way into the house.
I endured about a wild, impassioned and undeserved 3 minutes or more beating with a wire hanger that left huge bruises, painful bones and muscles and a broken spirit when I was a kid. They remind me of cruelty. (straightened out they're quite functional)

Use them, take them back to the cleaners for them to reuse, make a wire sculpture, wall hanging, etc., find a recycling center that recycles metal - just some suggestions!

I give them to thrift shops, dry cleaners (which I rarely use anymore), and to friends who need hangers after they buy new shirts or blouses, and donate their old clothing. One hanger comes in handy for opening a locked car door (certain older models). You can also cut the wire, and create pinwheels.

You plant them hook end down. They sprout and produce paper clips, which grow up to be hangers.
(Many years ago there was a Science Fiction story about paper clips growing up to be coat hangers. It was called, "Or all the seas with oysters". See below.

I have used them to make mobiles and dream catchers in preschool classes.
I use them to poke things out of other things.
As keys to the bathroom door.
And I 've seen a few guys use them to hold up exhaust pipes.

We used them to tack down my fence. We had a dog digging under our fence, so we took unraveled them, then cut it in to 4-5 inch sections. We then bent them so the looked like big staples. They worked like a charm.

Lately I been telling my dry cleaners to fold my clothes and not to give me metal wires.
All my old wires I will bring back to the dry cleaners so that they can re-use them.
