My 5 month old kitten is in heat, or at least I think so. She might be approaching that point. I have an appointment made for her to be spayed, but the earliest I could get is next week. In the meantime, what can I do to ease her and make her more comfortable and happy?

If you have any male cats in the house, you must lock her in the bathroom or another place with a litter box. If not, give her lots of love, and cuddle with her. DOn't give her food the day of the operation though, It will disrupt her stomach.

Keep her away from toms (male cats) that are not neutered, keep her inside to prevent a stray cat from mating with her and supervise her as much as possible to prevent a chance mating. Feed her as you normally do, play with her, and keep her litterbox clean. It is a good thing you are spaying your queen (female cat) as cats reproduce QUICK! My female dog Misty almost got pregnent due to an AKC-regestered Beagle dog who's "call name" is Riley when my family left her with Riley's owners(Our friends Mary and Collin) and dropping our altered dog Ikis with them as well when all of us had to go to Ohio; in 2005 my Uncle Keith and my (now) Aunt Joy were having their wedding and we were coming to attend. This trip was very tramatic and not just because of Misty almost having a pregnencie; Ikis almost died while we were out-of-state and my grandfather died in Ohio on this last trip in the hospital. After Grandpa died, the April/May/June(I know it's one of these, just not which one) afterwards we spayed Misty, no regrets. She has since been healthy and happy, what me and my family want. You do NOT want to have a similar situation, trust me.
