Yes, if the gloss container is larger than 3 fl oz
From the TSA.gov website:
1. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller.
2. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.
3. Each traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.

a lot of airlines are different, as well as airports. when i went on vacation last, the airline did not let me have any makeup in my bag, and that included mascara, so i had to put it in my luggage to be stored under the plane. on the way back, the florida airport did not mind that i had makeup in my carry on, but they took a snowglobe that i had packed in the same bag. if you dont want you lip gloss to be taken, i would suggest either putting it in your regular luggage, buying a cheap one to put in your carry on (just in case it's taken), or keep it in your pocket + hope they don't ask for you to take it out when your bags are getting checked.

I would check the airline guidelines before you start packing. Last time I traveled, small amounts of liquids and gels were allowed (under 3 oz. or so) in carry-ons, and it all had to be in Zip-loc bags. Should be easy enough.

It is considered a liquid and would have to be put into a ziploc bag with your other liquids.

Yes they will if the container is too large (or long). Check the rules as I have seen this done at security.

Just put it in a 3 oz ziplock bag and you'll be fine.
