If you want to prove that Norton is causing a problem then you could disable it and see if that makes your PC go faster. There is prbably an icon sitting in the system tray at the bottom right hand side on the screen. Right click it and select Disable.
In order to see what might be slowing your computer down, use Task Manager to identify the process. Press the keys Ctrl + Alt + Delete together and click on the Processes tab.
Look down the CPU column for any process where the digits are above 0%. Ignore the System Idle process as that displays resources that are free.
Also look in Event Viewer to see if there are any problems listed there. Click on Start->Settings->Control Panel and double click on Administrative Tools ans select Event Viewer.

I deal with sick computers daily, and almost all computers with Norton and Mcafee slows the computers down, sometime to a point where its actually unusable.
I would advice you to remove Norton and use something else thats a bit easier on the computer. try Avast or AVG
On teh otherhand, if you have a dualcore computer with lots of memory, the problem could be something else, ie, Norton is conflicting with another piece of software already installed.

i have seen this problem over and over again, the problem is norton. the firewall is causing your pc to run slow and checks every thing over and over again asking is it ok to allow this or block that? this problem is amplified if you are low on system ram eg. less than 1gb. that might seem like a lot but after you have booted into xp and then let norton run your system ram is now below 512mb and with any other program running like a game or IE7 when surfing it all adds up and causes the pc to crash. best thing to do is bin norton and get something that doesnt cause your pc to slowdown. try bullguard 7. seamless and is a lot cheaper.
