I'm currently studying the Medieval Ages and I question I have is about the effect if barbarians had succeeded in conquering Western Europe. I know that Christianity would have been nearly forgotten and wouldn't be the main religion of the Byzantine Empire. I cannot remember the name of the religion that would have then been the main religion. I think it begins with a P and they in a way worshiped the sun and rain and such. Does anyone know the name of that religion?

The generic term is paganism. The variations were local. Actually the Druids had quite a lot of influence in the Celtic world, and that got spread around quite a bit. Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and various somewhat more isolated parts of Europe were basically Celtic.

Perhaps you are thinking of the term "animism," which is mostly an anthropologist's term. In animism, everything is alive, has consciousness, and is personified by a deity or demi-god.

Many modern quantum physicists would agree in principle.

The generic religion of the barbarians is Paganism. Althought the basic tenants were the same, some aspects changed from tribe to tribe. Like pagans in Hawaii worshiped differently than Euorpean Pagans.

Are you by any chance thinking of Paganism? That's earth-based but I wouldn't say they worshipped sun and rain. more honored and respected Nature.

it was common before organized religions for humans to work with the element of nature.... there is no "religious" name for them because they lives in a community as nature had intended them to... most if not all have been destroyed by christianity.... mother nature intends to return the planet to the people it was meant for.... pagan is a derogatory christian term to justify the christian's extermination of these people any non christian people.... they were simply natural societies....
