We all should be able to get along, after all, it was Dale Sr (from who Dale Jr got a large number of what is now HIS fans) was quoted as saying "...that kid is good..." when asked what he thought of Gordon, who was also Dale Sr's good friend on and OFF the track. As far as the Gordon having as many wins as Jr and Sr combined issue, Dale Sr was nearing the end of his driving career when he was killed, Dale Jr has a lot of talent and time to add to his win total(as soon as he joins a successful team w/an involved owner), and last but not least, Jeff Gordon, who has more championships than any other active driver, has more all time wins among active drivers, is currently in 1st place in the points standings w/3 wins this year, part of a 4 car team that has dominated nascar 2007 thus far, and did I mention that Dale Earnhardt Sr himself thought Gordon was "GOOD". So I say YES, we should friends 'cause it's possible Gordon and Jr "may" become teammates in 2008.

DavidB will only get along if you are 13 yr old girl or homosexual. I am a Gordon fan as well as a Jr fan. The jr fans who throw beer bottles at Jeff's car when he wins, need to grow up. Jeff and Sr had a good relationship. Jr was the one of the first to congratulate Jeff when he tied his father. I like both drivers and wish them both well. Jr fans at the races, cut back on the beer and grow up

I am a huge Jeff Gordon fan and I have no hard feelings toward any Dale Sr. or Jr. fan. I have alot of respect for Sr. especially and Jr. is earning my respect. I take alot of heat because I am a #24 fan. That's okay! #24 ,#3, & #8 fans are always gonig to disagree on who's the better driver; that's never going to change. The one thing we all agree on is our LOVE for Nascar. All Nascar fans are my friends and family!!

I'm a Jr. fan and if I didn't get along with Gordon fans I'd never be able to get into bed with my wife. I personally have no problem with Jeff, he's a great driver and a hell of a humanitarian. Johnson and Kyle Busch on the other hand are an entirely different matter altogether, can't stand either one of them.

Q: "Dale Jr Fans, Jeff Gordon Fans - Why can't we ALL GET ALONG ?"
A: Jeff Gordon fans are intelligent. Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans are ignorant slobs.
B. Jeff Gordon fans respect the other drivers, even like the other drivers. Dale Ernhardt Jr. fans throw trash on the track, injure spectators, disrespect the sport and give NASCAR a black eye.
The two groups are polar opposites. That pretty well sums it up.

That is a very interesting stat. Hadn't heard that one before. The rivalry between the 8 and the 24 is definitely fan based only. I've heard both drivers say so. It is very unfortuante that people feel the need to carry that rivalry so far as to litter the track with
garbadge when Gordon wins. As for getting along.... I wish that would be possible. I think it would take both Jr and Gordon standing up together and yelling that there is no real rivalry to get the fans to stop and actually think about it.
P.S.- Drive for five is on!

I'm all for it but it will never happen. Most Gordon fans actually like, or at least don't hate, Jr. and I can't think of a single sane Gordon fan who doesn't respect what Sr. did. However, it is the exact opposite with Jr. fans. The fans created this imaginary rivalry between Gordon and the Earnhardts and it, fortunately or unfortunately, has stuck. Some say it is good for NASCAR...but apparently it isn't good for the track janitors when Gordon wins. Roll on Jeff!!

To understand the tradition of rivalry in NASCAR all one has to do is look at the roots of the sport.
In a region that already had long standing sports rivalries in college football and basketball, mixed families were the norm.
I pulled for State, a brother pulled for Carolina and yet another brother, and may God forgive him.....pulled for Duke.
You could love your brother without liking his team.
Love doesn't mean that my brothers and I didn't try to convince each other that you had to be a complete moron to pull for "that team".
NASCAR was the same way with us. We all had our driver.
In 1978, that changed. We learned that Dale Earnhardt had finally gotten a full time ride, at what was then young for a rookie, at 28 years of age. For the first time in our lives we were fans of the same driver and he had yet to win a race.
We remember NASCAR at that time with no TV coverage and run down tracks. For 14 years we watched NASCAR grow with Earnhardt's success. Tracks were expanded and updated. In 1994, Gordon won his first race a few months shy of his 21st birthday. Senior won his last Championship at the age of 43. In 2005, Senior lost his first best chance to get #8 by 34 points to Gordon, which also kept Dale from tying Cale's 3 in a row.
Dale never got closer than 265 points to his 8th, when in 2000 at the age of 49, he won 2 races to become the only man to win races in 4 decades while losing the Title to Bobby Labonte by that margin.
Bobby, knowing how much Dale wanted that 8th, in 2001 after Dales' death, said that he wished that the 2000 Title chase had turned out different.
You see, to Earnhardt fans it was never all about the wins but more about how he won and lost. It was about the man and how he handled being the most hated man in NASCAR. He turned it into a gravy train instead of crying about not being loved and admired.
He didn't beg for love from the fans based on his wins but in the end it was offered anyway.
As Earnhardt fans, we expect to be skewered and you should expect the same in return. Take the racing seriously but take the rest with a grain of salt.
You are my NASCAR brother, but remember this. Gordon will someday, likely sooner than you think, stop racing. Earnhardts never will. If Gordon doesn't reach win # 250 before he retires, his win total (for what it's worth) will never be safe from the Earnhardts.
The old man losing to a kid has become less aggravating with each of Gordon's accomplishments, but he better pick it up a little bit because Jeffrey Earnhardt is on his way as is, at long last, Junior. Either way an Earnhardt will keep old man Gordon from getting what most likely would be his 6th Cup.
The "Drive for Five".....oops out of time!
