I go barefoot everywhere and I get questions regularly, but if people are already asking you such questions *within the apartment complex* they're very touchy, and busy-bodies! Loads of people who don't go barefoot everywhere do go barefoot around their yard and driveway too, that truly shouldn't be worth noticing, let along commenting on.
Btw, barefooting isn't dangerous or unhealthy, please those people who think it is check out the link below and get some facts rather than spreading myths.

I love to go barefoot and do most the time. I am sure you're feet are as clean if not cleaner than the bottem of their shoes. I have individuals ask me at the mailbox where are my shoes. I just give a polight laugh and say well I am either barefoot or in heels. I don't wear heels to pick up the mail usually. I think the obsession comes from when people couldn't afford shoes so it was thought of I would guess trash type folks. Kind like Dolly Parton's song of coat of many colors.

I know the feeling. Right outside my apartment door is the laundry room. I never put on shoes just to go across the hall. People give me odd looks all the time, but it's like, "They're my feet!"

They're probably thinking you've collected a million germs just by walking down the hall [which isn't exactly off base either]. Wanna try flip-flops?
Awareness about germs and the ground everyone walks on, has gone up, and get this, some people even wear flip-flops in the shower [no kidding].
I wish you luck in your endeavor for answers.

Yes you did have clean feet.
However the people that walked across the lawn stepping in dog **** and dragging across the carpet with their shoes do not .
Do you know how much bacteria there is on an apartment hallway carpet? It doesn't matter if it looks clean, it is a bacteria trap. Then lay on your bed under your covers..spread it around under those clean sheets. Throw your bare feet up on your coffee table when you watch T.V. . Then lay your sandwhich down on it . It is called cross contamination and your feet are not as clean and pink as you think .

Responding to sekacity....you are a piece of work. Do you realize everything you said about germs being on the soles of his feet ARE ON THE BOTTOMS OF YOUR SHOES???? And unlike his feet, you don't wash the bottoms of your shoes. Go barefoot dude....I haven't worn shoes in over 20 years and the health benefits are huge!! No more back problems for one. And you feel better! Google "SBL" or society for barefoot living. Get the facts.

Some people are very offended by bare feet. I worked with a woman who would freak out when she saw bare feet. And some people are concerned about you getting hurt or picking up germs from the dirty floor. Then it is possible they are simply trying to make conversation. Enjoy your bare feet. Not enough people enjoy simple things any more.

I have no idea why people ar elike that. I walk barefoot all the time. I hate shoes. I start wearing sandals the day snow is not on the ground anymore (like late March, early April). Ignore those people. They should mind their own business.

Personally, I'd rather wear shoes in public areas. I don't want to step on glass or gum or other icky stuff in my bare feet. But if you want to go barefoot, I don't care. I don't think your neighbors should care, either. If they question you or stare, just ignore them. Smile and shrug, or say yes, you lost your shoes, or whatever. Eventually they'll get over it.
