I installed the stereo myself 3 months ago and it worked fine until yesterday. I'm no mechanic by any means but it was a pretty easy install and the wiring all seems to be correct. The display stays on when the car is turned off, all other lights are off, doors locked, etc.

Also, while, the display stays on, the stereo itself does not... I can't turn it on and play music or anything while the car is off.

I literally have to unhook it from the battery every night to turn it off. Any thoughts?

To answer lepcs, nothing unusual seemed to happen that caused this and nothing else unusual going on with the car... I don't think a wire is grounding out but I might need someone smarter than me to check that out, also to check out blown fuses.

It sounds like a defect in the CD player. There's no wiring issue that can cause your problem. The "illumination" input on the back of a modern CD player doesn't turn on the player's display; it just lets the unit detect when the vehicle lights are turned on so that it can dim the display at night.

If the player is only 3 months old, it should be under warranty. If you bought it from an authorized seller, then I'd get in touch with them for warranty service or replacement.

Sparky 34 is wrong. He/She would be right however you said it was working fine until "yesterday." You will need to get more info to answer this question.

1. What happened yesterday?
2. Is anything else in the car acting up now too?
3. Check to see if one of the wires on the deck is grounding out.
4. any blown fuses?

if it just started its not your jjob of wiring. more than likely a blown fuse........... they do crazy things when blown. once my lights inside would come on when i turned on radio. just pull it out and check.if not that then a bad head unit.

Your illumination wire is supposed to be wired to the "headlights" and is currently wired to constant power.
