I'm looking to replace my deck. I like to own decks that are unique and that I feel a connection with rather than the traditional Rider-Waite deck. Does anyone have a favorite unique deck they'd recommend?

Also, can anyone recommend a good tarot book that gives basic meanings, spreads, etc.

I dont reccomend using a book , but try and read from your intuition , say what you see and apply it to the person you are reading
good luck xx

I fully recommend the Thoth. The set up is very different from the Rider-Waite, but when you drop one of those on a spread, you can feel it.

I also recomend an actual Golden Dawn deck, as the RW is kinda a bastardized version of that [The Trumps are messed up, and so are the courts], and A.E. Waite was a bit high and mighty in his manuals.

Er, I'm not the best to ask about this, but I enjoyed "Book T," [Which can be found in Israel Regardie's, "The Golden Dawn." Also, take a peak at Aleister Crowley's "Book of Thoth," [though, only if you can keep separate the Thoth Tarot from the others.]

The Thoth Deck, and the Tarot of the Dead have some pretty nice artwork, and are good for something a bit different from the norm. There's tons of internet resources on spreads and card meanings. The best I've read is to spend a few days meditating on each card to get a feeling of what it represents to you and work from there.

If you can find it, the Ancestral Path Tarot is interesting. Each of the suits is based on a different mythology:

Wands - Egyptian
Swords - Japanese
Cups - Arthurian
Pentacles - Native American

Beautiful artwork on the cards. Unfortunately I think the deck is out of print.

Also, check out http://www.aeclectic.net for lots of information on tarot decks and meanings.

3 - Rider/Waite - Arthurian Tarot - Mage the Ascension All were offered by utilising me.. All 3 are depending off of the Rider/Waite deck, although the Arthurian has fairly Celtic undertones to it, and the Mage the Ascension deck is from the White Wolf video games, Mage the Ascension.

There are lots of decks, literally hundreds, so you've got to pick something that works for YOU. Same thing with the books out there.

My favorite deck, and one I personally own, is the PoMo Tarot:

They're hard to find, but in my opinion well worth the effort. I've had very good results with this particular deck.

You don't find a deck....the deck finds you.

I personally use the Goddess Tarot and absolutly love it.

I think that anything that has to do with that should be picked with caution. But you can usually feel if the object has a negative energy. Whatever calls to you.

I would recommend that you bin them because you are contacting evil forces when using them.
