Your metabolic rate is controlled by your thyroid gland, which is like a management system. The users of energy in your body, and therefore the biggest factors of your metabolic rate, are your stomach, brain and muscles. Now the first 2 have very little effect on your metabolic rate because the amount of energy they use is quite small. The muscles are the biggest factor to your metabolic rate. Muscles use up energy all the time and so dictate your metabolic rate at rest far more than anything else. This is why exercise is so important it doesn't just use up energy during the exercise but it makes your muscles grow which in turn increases your resting metabolic rate.
So if you're trying to lose weight you maybe need to assess how efficient your training is to the goals you want to achieve and get your diet checked out to make sure you're eating healthily.
To help you I have included a link to my blog below, here you will find hints and tips on diet and exercise that may cover some areas you hadn't thought of before.
Stick at it and good luck with it.
PS check with your doctor if it is your thyroid gland but this is very rare and therefore very unlikely you have it, but better safe than sorry!

Resting Metabolic rate can be increased with weight training. I would suggest you lift weights using your total body 3 times a week for about 30 minutes (e.g. Mon, Wed, Fri) Be sure to give yourself a day in between to rest. This will in turn increase your lean muscle mass and your resting metabolic rate will subsequently also increase because your muscles need energy. This is the reason why sedentary people have lower resting metabolic rates in general. On Tues, Thurs, and Sat..I would suggest doing cardio to burn more calories.

Our metabolism is the sum total of energy activities of the body such as the building up phase (anabolism) and the breaking down phase (catabolism). Green tea and other herbal extracts are rich in antioxidants and vitamins & certain minerals. When we consume Green Tea for a considerably long time our body is said to be cleansed from toxins, free radicals and pathogens to some degree. Our body cells function at an optimum rate and energy expenditure increases. So Green Tea indirectly helps in increasing metabolism, although in a very slow and subtle manner.

Yes, eat small healthy snacks throughout the day, and lift some weights. If you gain a little bit of muscle, your metabolism will speed up.

The only really useful way to do this is to exercise.
30-40 minutes of vigorous exercise 4-5 days a week is recommended.

Lots of small meals throughout the day keeps your body burning fuel efficiently. Combine that with cardio four-five times a week and you'll be set!

I've heard that drinking vinegar helps...but not in excess. I don't know personally but one of my teachers at school did it and she lost like 20lbs in a little over a month. Although she still exercised and watched what she ate. She told us that she woould just drink like a couple tablespoons before bed.
