you are not responsible for buying her a dress.

You are Nuckin' Futs if you buy a dress for a woman you barley know, to go to a wedding with you. She should supply her own attire if she doesn't have the money to purchase the attire she should just decline your offer. Kinda confused by your question though...Did the woman you just met ask you to buy a dress? or Did someone else you know suggest that you buy a dress for her? If the woman asked then she is mooching big time....tell her straight up you don't have the money to purchase her a dress, and then ponder if that's the reason why she was single when you met her. If it was someone else suggesting that you buy her a dress, I still would not purchase a dress. One, it would probably make her uneasy seeing that you two just met and your already buying her a semi-expensive gift. Two, it might make the woman feel like you think she doesn't have the money or sense enough to buy her own dress. Three, I would just write this one off as bad advise and not think anything about it again.

I am a female and I wouldn't feel right about asking a man I just met to buy me a dress.

No, you do not need to buy a dress for her. I'm sure she has something appropriate. The only time I"ve heard of a gentleman buying a dress for a woman was if it was for a formal (black tie occasion) and she didn't have the appropriate clothing.

That's the weirdest thing I've heard. Why would you buy her the dress? Only millionaires in cheesy hollywood movies do that - and most "normal" girls would be so weirded out by it that they most likely wouldn't go out with the guy again! She's a big girl - she can buy her own dress!

I don't think you have to. If she accepted your invitation to go then she knows she has to wear a dress. If this female didn't have anything to wear or money to buy something to wear then I would say offer to buy one for her. Plus, even if you did buy a dress for her it doesn't have to be an expensive one.

Why would you invite someone to a wedding that you are just getting to know?? Anyway!! She should have her own clothes, I don't think you should have to buy her a dress, BUT make sure you check with her to see what she's gonna wear, you want to make sure its appropriate with what you are wearing and the occasion.

no, you should not feel the need to buy her a dress. If she agreed to go with you than she should have no problem getting herself a dress, or she probably has a dress already.

No that is not right and you should find smarter friends. You have no obligation to buy her anything except a few drinks. She doesn't need a new dress and it's not expected.

I don't believe that there is an etiquette rule on this, if you asked someone to to a wedding, then that is in their responsibility by saying yes to dress themselves.

That's ridiculous, there's no reason you should pay for her dress. She's your date, not your whore. She has plenty of dresses, and if she wants something fancier she'll either buy to tell you she can't go because she can't afford an appropriate dress.
