Does anyone know of a travel guitar that is good quality but affordable (say, for a high school student)?

I dont know of any exact brands, but a good suggestion might be for you to go to a pawn shop and buy a little guitar there, they are cheaper than at actual guitar shops, and you can even buy new guitars there as well as accecories for them (mini traveling amp perhps?)

I bought my first acoustic/electric guitar at a pawn shop. It was new, and I still use it now. I love it because I bought it with my own money that I worked hard for, and it was one of the first things that I purchased with my first paycheck (about 3 years ago).

The good thing about buying a little instrument at a pawn shop is that you can test them out to see which ones you think sounds best and you can buy based on price and possible even haggle your way into paying less for it.

I wish you the best of luck with buying your guitar =]
(PS I used to bring my guitar to school everyday)

I have four guitars, but my oldest is a Yamaha, and I've left if out of the case and on a stand in heat and air conditioning for about thiry years, it's unreal how well it has held up, it even sounds better then it did years ago, like an old wine it got better with age, I can play along with records by classical guitarist and my tone sounds just as good . (believe it or not), So I think that brand would be good for travel, it holds up under all conditions. I'd be afraid to take my good ones because they do not hold up with humidity changes, you have to be very careful.

Favorite guitar of the ones I own (14) is a heavily modded Mexican Strat: Favorite piece of other equipment is probably a pedal: 80's Ibanez Delay Dl10 (blue box) Also Just got a ZVex Fuzz Factory and if I can figure out how to fully control the feedback it will be insane

Are U in USA? try "Go" guitars -American made & look pretty good. "Vantage" do a good one too. As usual, best advice is to go to your local music shop & see what's on offer. Try a few!

Well, whatever you do, you probably shouldn't buy a guitar at Wal-Mart.
