Come on!...we all know the truth about this, so why are we skirting around it!....
Harry is a royal prince....the political fall-out of him getting killed or even injured in Iraq is immense!
Yes he is different!...is he more important than other british soldiers?...of course he is...it's just that no one is honest enough to admit it!!!!!!!!!
Is it right?...Hell no!
Will it ever change?...Hell No!!!!!!!!!

The very fact of his importance makes it risky for other soldiers. Surely they are all too important to risk sending him when he is, in this case, a walking target that would bring the Iraqi army down on all British troops with greater fervour than before. In other words, if he goes to Iraq there will be a bloodbath the like of which British troops have never seen before. They would stop at nothing to either kill him or better still, from their point of view, capture him.

I feel sorry for him. He really wants to go and his regiment want him to go. Every time a question on this gets posted all soldiers and ex soldiers say he should go, but it seems the MOD and General Dannatt are the ones lacking the bottle.
Ok this might sound really dumb and i may be wrong. But for all those saying that he is a specific target. How will they find him in a tank??? Will it have HRH Harry written on the side??
And for all those saying that it puts others at extra risk, i read a quote that said his regiment want him there and morale will be lower if he's not, so surely they are the only ones we need to ask as they are the ones everyone is supposedly trying to protect. They aren't bothered they've all had T-shirts printed with i'm Harry and a target on them. I thought that was great.

No, His royal status makes him and everybody around him a target in Iraq. British soldiers don't need that

I think the issue is that the British army has been receiving death threats against the prince and they are afraid that since he is so high profile (apparently his picture is being circulated all over the insurgency) he will pose a threat to the rest of the soldiers in his troop.

No.
His status is to learn practical lessons in peace-keeping with human and public relation in foreign land.
And iraq or Afghanistan is not the right place for him yet.
When his brother went to Falkland.
He was fighting the army.
In iraq we have cave-men jumping from trees to trees.
Not to go out there to look for a fight.
Mummy will give him stripes for that.
With time with practical lessons.
He will know what it's like in ruling and leading in guiding the survival and advancement of living human kind back home.
Not in going out and look for a fight.
Only little boys like to go out to look for a fight.

I'm afraid it does as he is a royal, it was obvious from the start, he was never going to be sent anywhere dangerous. He is the spare for the heir, thats all there is to it, he has to be preserved, and to be honest, it would probably put the rest of his unit at risk from potential snipers and assasins wanting to pop a bullet off at him!

I guess you don't understand!
Yes it is his status, and they have already sent threats to kill or kidnap him while in Iraq, while they would not do that to others, but based on his status alone.
The big issue is that it puts every person in the military around him at risk. One they decided was not acceptable!

No, but, he would be a hardcore target for extremists, al qaeda and insurgents. Imagine the ransom you could get for capturing him. Remember, he is third in line to the throne. Meaning his capture or death carries deeper implications for England.
