actually lauren you are wrong. days could actually be millions of years. you know that evolution theory that teachers shove down our throats? well some of it could be true, god could have made those species in a matter of "days" in which evolution could be Gods way of new species. its just a theory and i do believe obviously that God created the earth. but maybe it was God's plan to let evolution occur as a part of creation. The only thing is wrong is with the dino's being like 65 million yrs. old because according to the Bible the earth isn't that old. also the big boom TOTAL CRAP. so i thought id clarify. 7 days could equal YEARS!! we don't know the expanse of time that God created it in. we can only have faith in Him!

Interesting take. Here's mine.
I think time itself is a manmade thing. I don't think time exists for God. I think that whoever it was that said the earth was made in 6 days (Moses, then whoever translated his words) was using it as a concept. The fact that in most cultures (that believe in God) it is generally accepted that the day of rest is to be included in the concept of creation, and that in the Jewish culture during Biblical times the number 7 was symbolic of completeness, it isn't out of the ordinary to think that the earth was created in seven days. A day is a man-made unit of time. Seven was seen as the number which represented completeness. Therefore, the concept of 7 days to create the earth, is a symbol of the TIME it took to COMPLETE the earth.
Granted, God is perfect and therefore His standard of time would be perfect too, but I just don't think this concept is from God. I think it's from man. That doesn't mean it's bad, or evil or wrong or anything like that. I was taught in Sunday School that the reason a lot of things in the Bible don't seem to make sense to us today is because of one of two things. One, we don't know the history/historical culture of the people and/or the land of the times represented. Two, when the person who is talking and/or writing (originally - not a translation) has never seen or experienced anything like what they are seeing (in a dream or a vision for example) then they use concepts and phrases that are as close to what they have a knowledge of as they can. If you've never seen a military jet shoot a heat seeking missle, then you might describe it as a giant bird throwing spears with suprising accuracy.

When the Bible says seven days it means seven days. Think about it, if it really meant a thousand years then when it says that men lived for a hundred years it really means a million? You cant say that seven days was something other than that unless you change the scale on all the other time frames given in the Bible.

Some people think it is a literal 6 day period, followed by a 7th day of rest.
If that is the case, how long was the "day" mentioned in Genesis 2:4?
"These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the >day< that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens."

sorry but yeah i think you are wrong, the stories in the first part of the old testament were not written down as such, like a diary or journal each day as things happened. no, they were passed down generation after generation around the campfires and on long hunts until someone recorded them, currently believed to be moses or his scribe and by then the story of course had changed many times as had the time and space perception.

I believe that the number of actual days is immaterial to the central message - that God created everything! Does it really matter how long it took?

An intereting theory if it didn't explain a day as being the evening and the morning or another way the night time and the day time.
I'm pretty sure day is a day.
