Jack russells run around a lot but if you keep their nails cut you shouldnt have a problem. I have wood floors throughout my house and I havent noticed scratches or anything from my jack russell.

If you want a dog and you are concerned about your floor boards with the dogs claws, maybe you should consider adopting an older house trained dog from the shelter or a rescue group. Puppies are going to chew and if your floor boards are important to you, the other damage a pup might do may be more than you can handle. If you are ready to turn your home into a big dog play pen, then you are ready to have a dog. You need to realize these are animals, not children that you can socialize. They will never outgrow some of their behavior. They are, after all, dogs. I have 9 dogs in my house, we have tile floors, and the dogs rule. When the doorbell rings you can't hear anything because it is so loud. You really need to consider a cat or an adult dog if you are going to be concerned about material things like floor boards. Some things you can keep out of the reach of your puppy, but the floor is not one of them! I don't think they will do much if any damage to the floor, but if you are so concerned about a floor, you really better think long and hard about a pup!

As a new puppy it will have long claws, but it won't weigh much so floors should be ok. After the vaccinations are done you can take it out on walks and the claws will rapidly wear down to a non damaging length. Mind that's the floors ok, everything else in the house will be trashed until you establish the house rules

Too vague. Jack Russel Terriors are Extreemly fine dogs! I had one once when we had a rat plague on our farm. Worth his weight in dead rats! Also an excelent pet and loved the kids and never hurt a chicken or any other animal. got on well with my purebred shelties and was a joy to have around the house.
Keep nails clipped if it is to be a house dog and buy it tunnel type toys. A peice of drainage hose from the home depo. A childs tunnel or boxes. Get it furry spueekie toys and teach it agility. They are amaizingly agile!
Fun to dress up and tho they are iffy on obediance training it is because they are smart alics not stupid. Enjoy! give him excersize and teach him to fetch and takei him to the dog park for run games. those tunnel toys will be a blast! See you on Americas Funniest home Vidios!

I have a German Shepherd cross collie whose claws grow like anything and we have laminate flooring, she doesn't seem to have marked it or anything yet, and she runs around the place like a wolf gone wild, so i thought a Jack Russel would be ok on wooden flooring.

It sure will, I have a rather larger dog and my hardwood floors were never the same again. You could try putting down occasional rugs in the 'cornering' areas, i.e. where they go around the corner on two legs, but make sure the rugs have non-skid under-mats. The appropriate response is, what is more important? A warm loving companion or floorboards that can be re-sanded when you want to sell the place.

I have 3 dogs and used to have a German Shepard dog (had to put her down recently) I also have wood floors and the only scratches the floor has is from the furniture. I used felt pads on the bottum but one of them came off under a recliner and scratched the floor up badly. Never a scratch from the dogs though.

no it is very unlikely the puppy will damage your floor boards with its claws. If the puppy is regularly exercised by walking on pavements etc. it nails should need very little mtce.If the flooring is laminate type flooring the main problem you may have is in the dog constantly slipping on the surface and risking injury to itself.
In my opinion laminate type flooring is very unfriendly to dogs and has potential to cause serious injury to the dog.
Hope this helps

All dogs have claws. You have to remember that. My friend has wood floors and a dog and nothing happens to the floors. Just remember to bring him/her to a groomer to get her/his claws clipped once and a while. Don't Do It Yourself! Let a professional do it!
