If evolution is true and if we consider for a moment that there is no Heaven and Hell then why are we here on earth? What would you say is your function on earth???

I would say perhaps there is no purpose.

However, I would add that I don't need to believe in one to make myself valid.

Uuuh... what does evolution have to do with heaven and hell and why we are here? There is absolutely NO reason why you can't have evolution AND have a heaven or hell AND have a function here on earth. These topics are totally unrelated, except in that idiots on both sides of the issue try to use their point of view to debunk one another for no logical reason. It is like listening to children argue about whether Barbies or video games are better toys. It ultimately depends on what you are looking for. Looking for the origin of the human body? Why not evolution? Looking for the origin of the human spirit? Why not God? If you don't believe in one or another, who cares? Your loss.

I just don't understand why people can't accept the idea that both Evolution and Creationism are correct. The Bible says that God made the world in 7 days, whose to say he had done it in "our" form of days? Also, why can't a higher being have created everything in the universe? All things in this universe and outside of it had to have an ultimate source right? So, I would like people to start considering the possibility that evolution and creationism can be combined into a hybrid theory that includes both.

Yikes.

We are here for no other purpose than to Live. We are lucky to exist and that makes life that much more beautiful and special. The fact that you need a reason to live shows how utterly brainwashed and desparate your outlook on life is.

We all have the opportunity to make other people's existence better, and enjoy our family and friends, that is a wonderful thing. I don't need a deity to understand that. In fact, not having people fighting over the will of a mysterious deity and trying to determine people's paths for them would make living the short time we have allot more positive.

The function of human life, as with any other kind of life, is to make more of it. Biologically, that is all there is. But you are welcome to choose any other purpose you wish. Carl Sagan said: "If you want your life to have significance, do something significant." My function, now that I have acquired some learning, is to attempt to distribute it for the benefit of others, such as readers in this forum. As for evolution, it is a proven fact; details on request.

Let forget Darwinism in this post !

Evolution (& Involution : other direction though): desire to transform oneself & others into higher being by competion & co-operation
(Hint : No Heaven here - just Higher. How High ? No one know till get there)

Another hint : EVOL - LOVE

Cheers

there is no indication that there is any reason for anything except in a cause and effect sense.
religion dosent offer much here either. stroking the ego of some deity dosnt seem like a very reasonable function. its certinly not worth creating millions of immortal souls and submiting them to eternal torture.

To live in the present moment and realize it is all about the trip, there is no destination. It is in this very moment that you have to live, no reason, no purpose other than to be the best that you can be at being you. This is it, all there is, might as well enjoy it.

Have a real day!!!

We are here on earth for no particular reason, unless we create a reason for our being. Biologically speaking, my function on earth is to pass my genetic material on to the next generation. Intellectually, I've decided that my function is to learn.

I often wonder why people feel the need to have some afterlife in order to allow themselves to enjoy life.

If evolution is true, your function on earth is to maximize your fitness, ie spread your genetic information far and wide.

This means have kids and also support your own people, and all people. Other humans have genetic information like yours, so supporting society at large is biologically the thing to do.

Try to have fun while you do it, for your own sake.

The purpose of life is for the people who God thinks are potentially suitable to live forever to suffer(suffering makes people learn and become more more sympathetic etc.) in order to be made 'perfect'
