I don't think they use a Bible in court any longer ..

The religious convictions of some people prevent them from doing so. A person will however be required to publicly affirm his solemn agreement to tell the truth if he objects to swearing an oath. Such an affirmation does not involve or require the use of a Bible.

No. They probably refused based on their religion which would have to be accepted by the court. Though, in Kentucky, they don't do that anymore.

What's amusing about it is the Bible says that "God" claims that one should never swear on anything on earth or in the heavens including "swearing to God". And here they are asking people to swear on the Bible to tell the truth... as if that matters...

I have never been asked to swear in court, but I will not ever use a Christian bible for such a thing, I cannot promise to tell the truth over a book of fiction.

They have a right to give their word instead of putting their hand on the Bible, as does anyone.

For the most part, Bibles are no longer used in courtrooms. You are not required to swear on a book, and all that is required is that you swear or affirm that you will tell the truth.

The Torah is the first 5 books of the bible.
The Tanak is the entire OT.

Since they're swearing to God, I think it's ok.

More importantly, do Atheists just laugh when confronted with this?
