Although I do get good grades (As, Bs) and always make my work up when I miss school, I realize that skipping school and cutting class is becoming a habit for me. I do this on the occasion when my parents have to leave for work early and cannot take me to school, where I am responsible for getting to school on my own. Usually I am just too lazy to get out of bed, I accidentally sleep in, or I'll miss class after lunch and go home (we have an open-campus lunch, so it's easy to leave). This has nothing to do with my friends either, they are good people and are trying to get me to stop as well. I would like to stop skipping because I know it's bad and it isn't good for my records either...I'd like to get into a good college/university like the UC's and I feel I am ruining it by cutting. But I'm having a hard time stopping just like *snap*. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for your help. I really need to stop.

OK so it has been a while since I was in HS, but I just broke the habit by going. I know that sounds hard, but it worked. When you want to quit doing something, sometimes the best way is cold turkey. If that doesn't work then the reward for going is a great idea too. I wonder though what is your punishment for not going....????? Do your parents know you are skipping? Can they not help you? I know my parents were both gone in the morning when I left for school and hardly ever made it home before dinner time. I too took advantage of their absence to skip school sometimes, but I also knew that if they found out that there would be a consequence. Also is there a friend that can drive you to school or bug you forever until you stop skipping. Having a support system might help. But honestly, just go!!!

As another answer states, it is the end of the year so maybe starting fresh next year is the answer. Don't start skipping next year and your problem may be solved.

Just keep things in perspective, is sleeping in or watching tv really all that much more interesting to miss school for, school is only what, 6 hours? If class is so boring and you want to skip out, then instead think about the "drama" you're missing on campus and need to be filled in on by phone or the next day. It's kind of late in the school year now, but maybe next year join a club or sport to get you more involved with your classmates so you have a stronger desire to be on campus, even when you don't need to be. Being with friends is a lot more fun then watching tv at home alone or catching some extra zzz's

Reward yourself - it's caused positive reinforcement.
If you attend all your classes all day, you can...
1] get a gourmet coffee
2] eat your favorite candy [ one serving please! don't need more problems ]
3] give yourself a facial ...etc.
If you attend all your classes every day for a week, you can ...
1] go to the movies
2] buy a new item of clothing
3] get a mani/pedicure
4] get a new CD, etc.

you could try giving youreself positive reinforcement, like "If I GO to school everyday for the next two weeks, then i can go on a shopping spree. or get your friends to do it. also you could find something to really look forward at school or something. good luck.
