Today christians are percieved as obsessively religious people who try and shove their beliefs down other peoples throats and condemn anything and everything that doesnt have GOD written all over it.
I do not feel that the people who fit the description are TRUE christians!!!! I dont know where these people came from but it angers me that all christians are being lumped into one big group of psycopaths.
1. A true christian does not scream and condemn others who say they are athiests... they pray for them, invite them to church, and do not force them to do anything they dont want to do.
2. A true Christian doesnt judge others. "Judge not lest ye be judged." Or something like that. They try to HELP people with their problems and try to find answers. Whether it be through god or other means. Just because you have made bad choices in life doesnt mean you cant turn back! True Christians help others, not condemn them.

I agree with you. It would appear to me that people want to accept the most negative representatives of Christianity and make that the standard of all Christians. This may be so that they don't feel so guilty about rejecting Jesus (I don't know). In my experience the majority of Christians are kind people who are patient and helpful, what people may be confused about are those that call themselves "Christians" with those who are TRUE CHRISTIANS.
For all those out there who think Christians are snobby, stuck up, pushy people who think that they are always right please try to find a true Christian and see what we are really about.

You had me there until you said "made a bad choice in life" which says that you are no different than all the other "shove it down their throat" Christan's, you are just much nicer about it. I was raised christian, went to a christian school, church on every Sunday and finally escaped. I started thinking and asking questions that NONE of the clergy would not and some times could not answer. A true atheist does not scream and condemn others, they invite them to have intellectual discussions, but then your comments indicate that intellectual discussions are not high on your list - possibly not on it at all. We try and help people, like you, with your problems, but then since you have "faith", you are not interested in considering that there might be a problem. You will, of course, say that I am doing the same thing. Quite the opposite. If you can "intelligently" show me truths and proofs then I will consider them. You, on the other hand have faith and will not accept truths or proofs since you began with a conclusion and reject anything that does not support it. Should you actually read this you will see a problem with what you have stated above.

The idea that Christianity should be private, never heard about, never influencing society.. in the age of freedom of speech, is hypocritical.
What is being shoved down a person's throat? when public education of evolution is required. While going to sunday-school to hear of Jesus' love, and church teaching creation by God and lessons for good and happy life is not required.
Yes indeed the image of Christianity is warped by those who are not Christian. The battle seems to have stepped up a notch since computers have brought a balance of ideas into the once bias one-sided media dominated message.
The dinosaur should accept evolutionary fate and let the newer creatures prevail.

Ha. Christianity was warped from the very beginning. Torture and death is supposed to abjure you of all guilt for something God set you up for? Look at the bloody (literally) premise!
So OF COURSE many "Christians" are people bent on bloodletting and tormenting others! They think it changes the world for the better.
It seems to me that it's the "true" Christians that are warped. They think God is about only peace and love because they haven't bothered to read the whole Bible nor think much about what they read and what it really means. For example, the Bible says nothing about being "non-judgmental." Find it! No, the Bible mandates judgment in many, many more places for maybe the one spot that could be misconstrued as not rejecting unrepentant sinners. Somehow tough love got confused for something separate from unconditional love and unconditional love got confused for meaning treat everyone as your friend even as they rape and pillage you.
Isn't this the same religion responsible for the Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades, the war of Reformation, the Duke of Orange, employing Machiavelli, and the wholesale slaughter of indigenous peoples worldwide all in the name of Jesus? You think it was *just* Constantine?
Today, Christians are so good at hate that they will even avoid caring about other Christians on account of not being from the same sect!
Think about it. Aren't these people you're complaining about just the contemporaries of the Spaniards that wouldn't mind putting lard on a jewish woman's feet so she can better feel the heat of the fire burning under them while she's on the rack? All that in front of a crucifix wearing a veil - as if it's all ok as long as Jesus is wearing his shades...
But don't worry. I'm not condemning that stuff. Orcs LOVE that kind of brutal viciousness! Go Christians, GO!
ORCS!!!

How many times do we have to hear that "Constantine" lie?
Constantine had NO say in what Christianity was. All he did was legalize it.
Do some homework people and stop believing every lie you're told just because it suits your need to be hostile.
Sorry for the rant. But that regular response toasts my cookies.
I do believe both the wackos and the media have painted a very back picture of Christianity. The same can be said of Islam. Not all of either religion are fanatics. But the media loves to paint us as such.
It's up to those of us who are genuine in our faith to spread the Good News as Jesus taught us.

Yes, Christians were once severely persecuted and pagan religions ruled. They had to hide and were not given a chance to voice beliefs. It has changed. Americans came over and thought the only way to control morality was to instill fear and then they thought it was best to coerce and present a loving a kind God.
Religion was once a private affair until it was determined people needed to be guided and couldn't make decisions for themselves. Regardless of the history, we live in the present and that is the way things are.

i don't think peoples perceptions have been warped as much as the idea and practice of christianity has been warped. if you really live your life as you wrote above, i commend you. i wish i had more experiences with christians like you. but i think they are truly few and far between. it is sad you are lumped in with them but MOST christians are obsessively religious, shove their beliefs down other peoples throats as well as have a difficult time taking responsibility for their actions (because they are forgiven and saved supposedly).

I agree with you. Those who scream and yell that everyone that doesn't belong to their religion will go to hell give everyone in their religion a bad name. Christians aren't the only one with this problems. The other religion that has had problems with this is the Muslim community. For the most part, their religion has been hijacked by the extremists, just like Christianity.

People's perceptions have definately changed. That is mainly becasue the amount of exposure that we have to the media. Good deeds aren't reported because true christians do not do them to be recognized they do them because that is the right thing to do. Those religious zealots who do insane stuff like blow up abortion clinics thrive on the attention and that is what gets reported in the media.
