This is a strange but otherwise good solution; Drive to the Staten Island Ferry dock at Saint George ,Staten Island [ Richmond County] bring a roll a quarters for the parking , buy an all day MetroCard for $7.00 in the ferry terminal which will allow you to ride subways and buses all day , take the free ferry to Manhattan and then take the #1 train from South Ferry to Times Square or wherever else you need to go.
Leaving Staten Island , go west on the SI expressway , take 440 SOUTH over Outerbridge Crossing ,shortly thereafter get on the Garden State Parkway to AC-allow 2 .25 hrs to AC
Btw if you are going PATPK-NJTPK Outer bridge is exit 10 on the NJTPK
Edit :
Another reason to use the SI Ferry is because it offers the best view of Manhattan. The Statue of Liberty is on the left, lower Manhattan is in front of you the ,the Brooklyn , and Manhattan Williamsburg bridges are to your right and the Verrazano* bridge is behind you.
Then of course there is the ghost of the World Trade Center which is off the port bow as you approach Manhattan and is twice as high as the surrounding skyscraper's xc the Woolworth building.
Stand outside on the bow of the boat and enjoy the view
Have good trip

If you are going to park in the city, stay away from Midtown Manhattan, because traffic will slow you down. On Sundays, you can park at meters without paying. If you are going to be there 4-5 am, I would suggest parking in the village, if you want to be in Midtown anywhere will be good.(8th Avenue, Park Avenue) These areas will have trafic later in the day, but at that time of morning there should be no problem, and it will give you a good base to walk around and see things. Do not park in a garage. It is Sunday and you will be wasting your money. You can park on the streets on sunday without worrying about time or tickets. It is a 2 hour drive to AC from the city.

You've got Adirondack Park in NY. The Niagara Falls area is fun in an old-fashioned tacky carnival way, with lots of "museums" on the Canadian side. From NYC, Ithaca (In the Finger Lakes region) is about 200 miles of beautiful scenery away and is home to some of the nicest natural scenery that I've ever seen on the east coast. It's a cultural epicenter as well - home to Cornell U. and considered by many to be the Haight-Ashbury of the east.

Yes. Of course you can park your car. If you are coming in from pittsburgh you will wind up right in midtown. You want to cross over to the west side (that would be about 42nd - 50th between 6th and 9th avenues). I think you will have fun here at the crack of dawn eating at a greasy spoon. It's the experience right? It will probably cost you anywhere from 15 - 30/hour to park your car in a garage. And, you should park your car in a garage. You can get a list here: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/parking/getmap.shtml?zoomifyImagePath=../../gif/parking/site&zoomifyX=0.0336570851610079&zoomifyY=0.0254589355451197&zoomifyZoom=80

I agree with what was already posted: why in the world are you doing this?
You will not see anything in such a short period of time in this city. Stay home and save your money until you can afford to come here for a longer period of time.

You can park at the Port Authority, 8th ave & 41st St., , they have a garage there. Money depends on what you want to do. I would take at least $300.00.
