NEWS ASIA-PACIFIC: Malaysia issues fatwa on ghosts
Genies are also a target of the decree [AP]
A Malaysian museum has closed an exhibition on supernatural beings after Islamic religious authorities issued a fatwa, or decree, against it, state media have reported.
The National Fatwa Council had ruled on Thursday that exhibitions on ghosts, ghouls and supernatural beings were forbidden, as they could undermine the faith of Muslims.Abdul Shukor Husin, the council's chair, was quoted as saying that "supernatural beings are beyond the comprehension of the human mind." "We don't want to expose Muslims to supernatural and superstitious beliefs," the Berita Harian newspaper quoted him as saying.

Thousands of visitors had attended musuem in the western state of Negri Sembilan since it launched the ghost and genie exhibition on March 10, due to run until May 31.
Its curator had previously resisted calls from Malaysia's arts minister and a religious leader for it to be shut down amid criticism that encouraging a belief in ghosts was un-Islamic.

What really bothers me is the coincedence of words and phrases used on this forum and on televison. As in:
"UnIslamic"--UnChristian
"We don't want to expose Muslims to supernatural and superstitious beliefs,"-- We don't want to expose our children to supernatural and superstitious beliefs,"
"They could undermine the faith of Muslims."--Atheists or Pagans could undermine the faith of Christians.
It's what you might call a theorcy script.

Oh my Stars!!! I hope that would never happen!! Can you imagine it? We would loose holidays such as Samhain(Halloween_) etc because heaven forbid pagans being allowed to celebrate!! We would be thrown back into the dark ages, and probably thrown into jail for our beliefs!! No more celebrating our holidays the way we like to (even the christians would have their day dictated) No more cricket on the beach for us Aussies!!!
Our kids little brains would be assaulted in schools, and they would come home with bruised knuckles for forgetting a word from the lords prayer or something similar!!
Oh could you imagine what would happen to some poor young girl should she become pregnant out of wedlock!
We have taken hundred of years to break free of the chains that bound us tightly, let us hope that it never happens again!!
Did you hear about the top cleric or whatever a (muslim leader is called) said here in Australia? He publicly declared that women deserved to be raped because of the way they dress... here is one article...
********************************************************************
Muslim cleric: 'Uncovered meat' to blame for rape, adultery
Australia's top Muslim cleric described immodestly dressed women as "uncovered meat" and blamed them for driving men to adultery and rape, according to news reports.
In an address last month, The Australian says Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali told 500 followers: "If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat? The uncovered meat is the problem."
The sheik then said, according to the paper: "If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred."
Prime Minister John Howard told the paper he condemns the remarks. "The idea that women are to blame for rapes is preposterous. I not only reject the comments, I condemn them unconditionally," he said.
These are not the first inflammatory remarks from the cleric. During a 2004 appearance in Lebanon, he said "September 11 is God's work against oppressors," according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Update at 8 p.m. ET: Muslim leaders decided Thursday night to ban the cleric from sermonizing at the Lakemba mosque for several months, Australian media are reporting Friday morning, including The Age in Melbourne. No other action will be taken against Hilali, who the group says was "misinterpreted."

Luckily not all muslims agreed with him, he was shunned by his own people and eventually run out of the country....
Extremists, in any religion should have no rights to affect how we live our lives!
Thankfully in my country, common sense still prevails....
Cheers!

I think Christians should have the same freedom of speech to speak for or against things. However, to actually prevent it, then I would say no. Since we do not live in a society that is Christian, it would be difficult to stop this kind of thing in a free society. However, we have every right to speak against it. It seems the only ones who have freedom of speech and get away with it are those who agree with the majority.

I thank God everyday our founding fathers wanted Separation of Church and State.
We are one nation under God but we are 100% free to determine who or what that God is and how or what exactly we choose to do in relation to that God.
But certain Christians what to be the sole dictators of who God is and how ALL Americans should be. Theocracy NEVER works as a government!
Personally the more freedom of choice we have and civil liberties we have, the better.

"Intolerance does not arise when I think I have found the truth. Rather it comes about only when I think that, because I have found it, everyone else should agree with me."
- Michael Behe, Darwin's Black Box, p. 250
I don't think Christianity nor any other religion should have that type of control.

In the US, no, but if some other country wanted religious doctrine to influence their government I suppose they could. I imagine things are pretty strict over in Vatican City.

I'm sorry, you are trying to blame Western Christians for something done by Malaysian Muslims?
We are really grasping at straws today, I see. This seems like blatant intolerance.
-----edit--------
Sorry, I should have said "anti-christian bigotry" instead of "intolerance".
Give me a few more thumbs down!

i think its evident from the examples in the bible and history that a nation that is ruled according to Gods laws prospers ... and those who get loose with their morals and reject God are doomed ... maybe america is the exception to the rule ...
