It is my understanding that there was a man, about the time of the original Homer, who was born of nobility, but he renounced his wealth and privilege to minister to the poor, a lot like the Buddha. Some many years later, a political rabble rouser was convicted for inciting anti-establishment demonstrations in the streets. He survived his crucifixion. Over many generations these two stories became grafted to one another, so that by the time the Counsel of Trent assimilated what would be the official, recognized Bible, the literary figure of Jesus already existed in the hearts and minds of the people. He could now be deployed to keep peace in the kingdom by encouraging others to be in humble compliance with the will of the state.
Jesus was a literary hero that carried an important message to the people, just like many others. (Beowulf, Prometheus, Zarathustra, Howard Roark... to name only a very few.) He was the vehicle of a philosophy and a new ideology. The failure of the people today, in my opinion, is that by taking this story and everything about it as a concrete fact, they have closed their minds to further learning and spiritual development. They have become intolerant, even hostile and certainly fearful of anything that challenges the security of this neatly packaged and sealed system of belief.

Well no doubt you will get all sorts of answers on here. I believe it's definitely true and not only because I'm a Christian but because I read a book with a lot of proof in it called The Case for Christ by Strobel. It's quite an objective account I thought, with lots of interviews with scolarly people all over the world and loads of references to old scriptures and things. Not like Dan Brown with his ridiculous conspiracy theories. I suggest you read the book and see what you believe yourself rather than just taking peoples' word for it...It is such a wonderful book

Rabbi Yeshua Ben Yusef did exist, undoubtedly but that's where it stops. Jesus Christ is the fictitious creation of Saint Paul and the Roman Church.

It has been proved that it has existed, but obviously all the miracles were never proved... Still most of his apostles have written about them and then again they were written long after his death... Still a mystery but a bloody good story behind it all!
Wished they had the old CCTV Hey?

If you do not believe that man has travelled to the moon, you really are living in cloud cuckoo land!!!
Regarding Jesus, it's up to you what you believe.

Of course it's true. A whole bible was created explaining Jesus's life, purpose, and all that. The man on the moon is a silly little tale that's cute. There is proof of the bible through found peices of noahs arc, dead sea scrolls, and so on. pretty cool id say!

When my friend studied Religious Education at 18. Their teacher told them that the Nativity story was made up and it was done so in order to teach children about the basics of religion or something. I was devastated. All those times I'd played Mary in the Christmas play and thought I was f*****g brilliant as a kid. All dashed. All a big lie. Gutted...
