To do what you want, you need to use Packet Writing. Windows does not support this as standard but there are several CD creation packages which come with software to do this.

It normally happens when you copy a file from a Read-Only Media (ROM), like a CD-ROM or DVD.

Moving file(s) from or copying file(s) to a CD-ROM doesn't make any sense and that's why the files in a CD-ROM are attributed by default as "Read Only" files.

So, every time if you copy a file from a ROM disk make sure that you have reset its "Read Only" attribute. Or you can save a copy of original file for your own amendments.

Once a file is burned to a CD it can't be changed, therefor it is "read" only. Copy the file to your hard drive, then you will be able to change it, then you can burn it to another CD. If you use a thumb drive to carry your data from computer to computer then you would be able to access and change the data right on the drive.

The simplest answer is:

After the file has been copied to your hard drive ...
Use Windows Exlporer to locate the file.
Right-Click the filename.
Select Properties.
A Dialog Box will pop up.

From the General tab, clear the Read-only Check Box.

That's all there is to it.
☺
