My friends and I are planning a trip to Toronto this summer and I was curious as to what would be a good time to head up. Are there any festivities that happen in Toronto, preferably a one that's heavy on drinking?

Early August there is a Carnival type festival. I forget what they call it, but it's lots of fun.

It can be hot as hell, and humid too so you really feel the heat. I was there a couple of years ago in late May and it was over 30C by ten in the morning. I grew up in Toronto and am very fair complexioned. I got a really good sunburn every summer for over 20 years so yes, you can certainly tan in Toronto in summer. May, June and July are best for that. The sun has lost some strength by August though it could still be strong enough to burn if you haven't had any previous sun exposure that summer. Yes, they ask questions at the border crossings. Not many, usually, but some. Be sure you have the right documentation to visit the US as a UK citizen, because the US and Canada are not the same country at all and the US will want proper papers. That sounds a bit obvious perhaps, but you would be surprised how many people think that if they're in the US or Canada they can automatically enter the other country.

Gay Pride is the best drinking festival - and don't worry if you're not gay, there are plenty of straight ppl there (I'm straight and I go every year). Church St. closes off traffic and beer is served in the streets - but the clubs jack up cover charges, which sucks.
If that's not your thing, try the Beer Festival or Caribana, but seriously, Gay Pride rocks.
