Get a hybrid made by Toyota or Lexus. Honda hybrids are not as efficient. Also, keep in mind that the car will never get the gas mileage that it says on the sticker. Usually, it's about 5-7 mpg less than advertised.
You also need to change your driving habits to maximize the benefits of a hybrid. (i.e. no flooring it when accelerating)

A Prius is probably the most fuel efficient vehicle on the market right now. But it's also more expensive than a comparable regular gasoline engine car.
The difference in price is probably more than what you'd save on gas in the next 5 or 6 years.
If you want to go with traditional and less expensive gas only vehicle, look for smaller ones like the Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, Ford Focus, Chevy Cobalt, etc. Smaller engine and smaller car = better gas mileage.

The 2007 Toyota Prius Hybrid Touring compact car is a fuel sipper. It gets 51 mpg on the highway and averages 60 mpg in city driving. The model, which seats 5 people and is the best-selling gasoline/electric hybrid model in the U.S., also is the most fuel-efficient. The two next-most-fuel-efficient models are subcompacts: the 2007 Honda Civic DX 5AT, which averages 40 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg in the city and the 2007 Toyota Yaris AT, which averages 39 mpg on the highway and 34 mpg in city driving. No car really saves gas, however there are a lot of cars that get better mileage per the gas the consume. The best being the new hybrid cars, however unless you have quite a bit of money to fork out go with something cheaper that still has good mpg (miles per gallon).
Small sedans, hatchbacks and sports cars are much better on gas both on the highway and in-town than trucks. Motorcycles are good on gas as well especially the sports bikes. However they require a different test and an add-on to your license.
Take a look around at new and used cars and find out what they average and see if it is what you're looking for.
Hope this helped!
